"We have a belief that fat equates to all negative things," Thore, a viral video sensation who now has a TLC show, "My Big Fat Fabulous Life," told the Daily News. "If you're fat you're lazy, stupid, unhealthy, ugly, and I don't believe that. I believe that fat can coexist with a lot of other great adjectives."

Genetics certainly play a role in a person's body type. However, you don't weigh damn near 400 lbs as a female without being "lazy" and "unhealthy". I've never met a fat person who did not constantly eat large amounts of unhealthy food while at the same time living an very inactive lifestyle.

My wife has polycystic ovarian syndrome.

She's like 5'7" 125. This bitch just wants an excuse to be fat.

Oh, yes, watching My Big Fat Fabulous Life will be giving me a new lease on life. I can't wait for it to come on. I have my DVR already set. I'm bringing all my overweight friends over to eat popcorn and chocolate and binge on coke for the premiere. Most of them are single so I'll pass your number along to them - I know what you like.

So, after this thread last night, I had to check this show out. I've known women with PCOS, and they did gain a lot of weight. But, not like this. Anyway, this chick was obnoxious and full of excuses. She mentioned PCOS about a 100 times in relation to her weight. Not only that, she's in her 30s, lives at home with her parents, and has decided that dance is the way she will lose weight. Dancing will be good, but it's not enough to get off all of that weight. She was needy and pathetic throughout the episode. My SO was falling asleep and kept waking back up to say how annoying she was. We both have thyroid problems which makes weight a difficulty. But, if we don't eat crap and exercise regularly, it's a non-issue. A little harder than most to drop weight, but the formula is still the same. No sympathy from me.

Exactly. This is not a condition that someone just gets or catches, its an inborn metabolic issue that has a whole spectrum of effects. It very well does make it easier to put weight on, but you still have to eat, and eat, and eat to get that weight, and continue to eat, and eat, and eat, and eat some more to maintain that weight. People get fat because they ingest caloric value in excess of their expenditure - its that simple. Some diseases, conditions, etc alter that balance, but the largest part is number and distribution of calories that a person ingests.

My wife has PCOS. She gained a lot of weight due to fertility treatments.
She gained a lot of weight and got up to 220 pounds. She was still beautiful.

That was years ago. She is currently a personal trainer and is competing in her first figure competition later this year.

She meticulously manages her diet and works out a lot.

This women is dumb. PCOS causes you to be insulin resistant. That is controlled by diet and eating the right foods. A lot of women have this disorder and often times are not diagnosed and do not have adverse weight gain. My wife has this and it's controlled by diet!

I wish I could down vote this thread in proportion to it's value.

If I were an admin it would be relegated to the Interwebz Forever Round File.

She kept talking about how many men love her and how she gets a lot of sex (even talking about it with her parents). Then talked up a date (with a guy she met online) for most of the episode and got ready for the date with 2 friends like it was the senior prom, leaving the impression that she really doesn't get as much action as she says. The date was with some skinny white dude who encouraged her get bigger and kept rubbing all on her, clearly showing she was just the object of some weird fetish. She later did a dance with her friend for her parents to show them that she's serious about it and got upset when her friend got more attention than her. She came off as immature, whiny, full of excuses, and in desperate need of attention. Also, her mom is a ding bat, and I think the producers must be angling for her to be the Uncle Sy character of the show. Silly Southern people.....It'll be canceled shortly, I'm sure. Would not watch again.

Exactly. People like to blame their weight on health problems but if you ask any doctor out there if you have a disease that can make you gain weight, (thyroid problem for example) does that necessarily prevent you from staying skinny? The answer is absolutely not. She eats like shite and doesn't burn calories, that's how she's about 400 lbs, plain and simple.

As someone with a thyroid condition, I can tell you it does make you gain weight if you're not careful. I gained a lot of weight before they knew what the deal was. I just thought my metabolism was slowing down. But, exercise and diet work the same with a thyroid condition. The hard part is it makes you tired, so you're less motivated. But, it's not the reason for being overweight. I'm overweight right now because I ate too much and didn't exercise. And now I'm having to work hard to get it off. That's on me. I do get tired, but I'm not physically incapable of exercise.
