I’ve never said either of those words in the context you’re using with either white or black folks. BUT, I used to work a 2nd job with an almost all black crew and I did find myself talking a bit different around them. I’ve also noticed other white people doing the same. I think any observant person has since this at some point in their life. Not in a professional setting, but just talking to the black janitor, valet or wait staff, etc. It happens, but I place it more on white people trying to sound ‘cool’ instead of actually talking down or using words ‘they’ can understand. I agree the data, but not the conclusion they came to because of it.
