Not necessarily true. You obviously cannot go past the point of departure or you're just starting the trip over again.
If you're a United States citizen and you depart east for the furthest coast to your east...that coast will be the west coast of North or South America. If you are flying due east on a straight path, the furthest coast you'll come to is the West Coast of the United States of America.
