Which would be harder. Murder detective or CP investigator?

I watch a lot of true crime stuff and have seen several detectives break down because of how emotional it can be. I often wonder which one is harder to cope with.

I can see how a murder investigation can be emotional. Especially if you get to know the victim's family, it's a cold case, etc. More times than not, these detectives seem to have obsessive personalities which makes it even more emotional/personal for them.

On the other hand, having to view and gather the evidence in a CP or molestation case has to be mentally taxing. It seems like it could lead to high burnout and PTSD more than a murder investigation. At least for me personally it would. I doubt I could handle it.

Not sure how people handle either but thank goodness there are people that are willing to do these jobs.

ETA: The Jared Fogle documentary is hard to watch. The woman DJ that helped bring him down has bad PTSD from talking to Jared and recording his phone calls. When he asked to see her kids naked I am not sure how she kept her cool and kept playing the part.

CP for sure..

There are truly innocent murder victims.
But, usually people who get murdered are pieces of shite.
Drug dealers, gangs, general trash people.

Children are all innocent.

I watched the Jared Fogle documentary and one of Jared's employees was a stepdad to some kids. He and the mom set up cameras in their kid's rooms so they could send the videos of their kids and the kid's friends to Jared.

Those people deserve vigilante justice.

CP investigator.

A lot of times stuff like that, severe child abuse, etc. have time limits on how long they let you rotate into the section.

Somewhat related but I like watching air crash investigations and I often wonder how traumatizing it must be for these investigators when they show up to a passenger airline crash. My father was with CPSO and was on scene for a small plane crash once. It messed him up for a good while.

They got more jail time than Jared did. 27 for the stepdad that set up the cameras and 33 for the mom because she had child abuse charges tacked on. Jared got 15 years.

Unless you are investigating the Kobe crash like the people in LA that took pictures of his dead body and tried to sell the images.

Thats what friends in law enforcement have told me too. They dont keep you in CP long and no one is upset by that fact.

I had wanted to be a detective for cp. I have a couple of close family members and friends who were brutally abused and they were never able to get justice for it.

I decided not to pursue it because a gal i was seeing said that people might look at me funny when I told them what I did.

I was young and stupid....shouldn't have listened to her.

That’s my understanding as well from working with a client that was in that unit at one point.
