He's AF so they have Minutemen... not sure how similar those are to submarine launched Trident missiles.

Trident missiles are around 44ft tall and 7ft in diameter. They have a section that contains all the electronics and guidance systems. You can actually open them up and crawl around inside (I've been in them).

The Missile Techs on subs actually have to go inside each missile when you go out on deployment to "ready" the missiles in case of launch... and they go back in when you're coming off deployment to take them back out of "ready" status.

I wasn't interested in it either... which is why I switched jobs. I went to my first boat as a Missile Technician, hated it, and convinced my Weps to let me cross rate. Definitely did not regret that decision.

I was at the Health Clinic from 93-96. So there's a pretty good chance we crossed path's in the Class Six or PX.

OP, you should edit the thread once people respond, under which branch they served in with their name along side it....

i'd love to acknowledge those who sacrificed for us here at TD.... to those who did, i sincerely thank you for your service to this STILL great country....

they were tested mostly by selection off California. very seldom from location. tested for accuracy and other such. I was in ICBM's.
