Not shocking from a school recommending you wear a black suit to an interview
Blue suit and black shoes is fine, if really, really conservative. But if you wear a black suit people will definitely assume you're a total dweeb (because you are).

Literally a custom suit ad on this page with blue suit and brown shoes

I could go on indefinitely, but you get the point.
It's hard to tell from the photos, but I would be willing to bet that at least some of those suits are a dark navy.

Warren buffet has never owned a cell phone. I'm not sure half those guys are worth stating as being close to the norm.

I have a black suit but I'll never get another one. I have two long haired dogs and the black suit shows dog hair.

Leave it up to a bunch of dad jean white shoe wearers to try and dictate fashion and you end up with blue suit black shoes---
My nicest dress shoes are black. Therefore, I wear them the majority of the time with navy and (generally) always a grey suit.

Actually, when looking at the tie colors in those pictures, I'm pretty sure all, except for possibly BI's, those suits are navy.

Whether they're out of fashion doesn't change the fact they're common.

You can find business executives in black suits all over Google images. You can find them on CNBC as well. Trump wears them. They're all over Congress. It's acceptable and common.
That being said, navy is probably the safest bet if you're only going to own one suit. I've got no problem admitting that.

But it isn't. And out of the pictures that you posted, you can clearly tell that at least three out of the four are navy. You may be somewhat color blind.

I was guessing charcoal. But sure, you will see wealthy/famous people wearing bespoke black suits on occasion. I don't particularly like the look when they do, but it happens. Black is so harsh though, and very unforgiving for guys buying 500 dollar suits. If it's not in fantastic shape and cut well, it looks absolutely awful.
I probably see the cheap black suit+colored shirt combo 20 times for the 1 time I see some professional pulling off the look well.

You can probably get away with a black suit at a black tie function. I'd wear tuxedo, but that would probably be an acceptable manner.

It's not so rare that it's never done, but I don't know how you can say it's common among professionals. I mean, I can't recall seeing one in my work this calendar year yet. I'm not talking about kids at moot court competitions or slobs, though. I mean clients and other professionals in meetings and the like.

Jerry Seinfeld could never work for those people.

half the pics you posted are of charcoal suits, which is proving everyone else's point. the first pic is classic charcoal, not sure why you posted that one. the background of warren buffett is black, so you can see how his suit is not black. the last two might be black.
