Seattle or other west Cascades communities to the north
Seattle has really gone downhill. It's comprised of extremes. Either high income professionals or extremely unsocial lower class people. I was walking around this weekend in a couple parts of town and just realized how bad it's become.
The newcomers are snotty as hell, the lower classes are anti social as hell. The burbs have retained some sense of sanity.

Don't know about going downhill sonce I have only lived there 7 months. I live in Fremont and love it. Looking at buying near Carnation since we want at least 5 acres.

Inside maybe Fort Collins
Outside I like Vancouver, BC or one of the surrounding areas

Fremont has recently become gentrified by outsiders once several high tech companies located near there. It's not as friendly as Ballard. I think they've tried to clean up Aurora and it's lost a bit of its local and historical flavor.

Tuscany. Too bad there's nothing available there.
Are you telling me there is literally nothing available to rent in Tuscany? I beg to differ. My friend, the Maestro, has a place in Tuscany.

In: Bend, OR
Out: New Zealand
People saying Switzerland... I get it, it's beautiful and the standard of living is very high, but the people there are insanely rude & mean to anyone non-Swiss. You'd get real tired of it, real quick if you lived there. Take what you have heard about the French x2. Going to a restaurant there is essentially like going to one of those places here where they intentionally insult you.

My experience is similar with Switzerland. In that area I prefer Austria, Northern Italy, or Slovenia. France has gotten better imo since my first trip there nearly 30 years ago. Now they are simply just rude.

I would probably split time between New Orleans and San Diego in the winter, spring and fall, and live in Chicago in the summer with a sailboat to take out in the Lake.
I have seen much of the world and I don't know if I would want to live anywhere there for more than a few months at a time. I would miss my family, football, and food. With that being said, Mykonos or Rhodes in the Greek Islands would be a pretty sweet place to chill.

I hear that from many of the "old timers" and I understand their concerns. Change is hard and single family homes are highly threatened in many parts of the ciry.
I actually live on the Queen Anne side of the Fremont bridge but shop/eat in Fremont. The food isn't up to LA standards (except for the top tier restaurants) but there are 60 very diverse dining options within walking distance of my apartment. If money was no object, and we didn't need some acreage, I would live on Queen Anne.

Love Montalcino. I could live there or Montepulciano.

There's tons of real estate available in Tuscany and some surprisingly affordable buys.

Lol. I think he was making a joke using a story line from a Seinfeld episode where a guy told Jerry (I believe) there's no reason for him to look for a house there because they were all sold in an effort to keep him from buying where he owned a property.
Sorta like the famous "...not that there's anything wrong with that" line you hear folks use occasionally.

Joking aside, Tuscany is the place I could most easily see myself transitioning. Loved it. San Gimignano is my kind of living, I think. If not in/near the city, then the countryside is epic.
In the US, it seems like you always have to sacrifice SOMETHING. So I'll ignore the threats presented by natural disaster/weather for my domestic pick. An area like the Bay Area in CA is pretty nice. The scenery is great and the weather's incredible.

Wow. I've been to Italy a half a dozen times and yet I've never heard of this little town. I just looked it up and it does seem like a cool place. More research required! Thanks.
