Boring?
NFL, NBA, AAA baseball, NASCAR, Soccer, hockey, lacrosse
Great golf
Good music and dining
Big lakes for boating activities
National Whitewater Center with trails and outdoor activities
Few hours from mountains and beaches
Roughly 20 breweries
Crazy development happening right now

I live in Birmingham and this is the correct answer..
Benefits IMO to Birmingham for me. Closer to hometown, closer to Tuscaloosa, closer to SO's family. Also it is extremely cheap to live in Birmingham. Moving to NO in the near future and rent is 2x what I pay now and I pay at the extreme upper end of Birmingham rent (I live in CBD as opposed to say.. Hoover where you can rent a decent apartment for $600 a month).

Charlotte is the best of the three.
On it's best day, Birmingham is never as cool as Memphis.

What's the general dislike of Memphis about? (not you personally, just reading the thread)

Charlotte is the tits
Birmingham is a slightly shittier BR
I've had bad experiences in Memphis, but there is stuff to do there. A little more boom/bust than Birmingham.

Charlotte
B ham
Memphis
You can't go to wrong with charlotte, short ride to the beach even shorter ride to the mountains. Plenty more offered from a social standpoint as well (NBA, NFL, NHL teams). It's a city that's growing at a good rate with a lot of potential and upside.

Baton Rouge is just a combination of Birmingham and Montgomery (as in basically BR is the same as if Birmingham were the state capital of AL). I definitely wouldn't consider Birmingham as a whole a "shittier BR". There are pros and cons of both.. like not having to pay private school tuition in Birmingham and being able to live in a municipality that isn't the city of Birmingham (like the St. Georgians want) in Birmingham's case.

If the rankings included BR. I'd go:
Charlotte
Memphis
BHam
BR's

I get the vibe that people who call Charlotte "boring" have never actually visited the place.

If single, then Charlotte.
If married, then Birmingham.
If trashy or poor, then Memphis.

1.) Charlotte
After that, you should factor in that Tennessee doesn't have a state income tax.
To counter, I believe parts of Birmingham (Homewood, Mountain Brook) have really good public schools.

Crime for me.
I've lived in BR (spent 3 years living off Ardenwood as a kid) and never had problems like I've had in trips to Memphis.

Definitely Charlotte. Owned a business there for several years and it is a great city.

The hate Birmingham gets on here is surprising. I'd rather live there than Memphis.

So you haven't been to Birmingham in the last 20 years?
If you like a bigger city then Charlotte, if you want more of a town then Birmingham.

Birmingham. Being an LSU fan, it will put you closer to the SEC offices where you can protest about officiating.
