Stay in the fishermans wharf area...lot to see and do in that area. Go watch the sea lions...
Park and walk across golden gate, visit the presidio, go to haute asbury, eat at chipinos...
Alcatraz is awesome...
Go down Lombard, Coit tower...

2. What is "Marin Forest"? You mean Muir Woods.

There is literally so much to do. One of the best cities in America. It is hard to go wrong. Get a guide book.

If you're in the Fisherman's Wharf area, on the corner of Beach and Hyde, right by a trolly terminal, is the Buena Vista cafe. Go in, order any food you want, and get an Irish coffee.

Even if you or your wife don't like whiskey, you'll love it and have a great buzz going before getting to Sausalito.

That said, San Francisco and a fantastic town to visit and just go where you feel like. It's pretty tough to have a bad there.

Wife and I just got back. I recommend getting a zipcar membership. 25 upfront and $6 dollars a month and you can rent a car anytime you want for an hour for about 10 bucks or a day for 75 or so. Includes all gas and insurance and the cars are located all over the city.
We used it to go to Muir woods and to see a bunch of spots all over the city in a short period of time.

5. Drive down to half moon bay down the PCH

I know you have limited time, but you should definitely to a drive down CSR 1, but don't stop in Half Moon Bay. Drive down to Big Sur at least... I promise you there isn't a more spectacular drive in the United States.

I've always like you...

Regarding the Oakland comments, Its changing and is the home of some great food and drank.

Go to the Ferry Building on Thursday for lunch AND/OR Saturday for breakfast. My favorite place is 4505 Meats. You will thank me later.

I always find the anti Oakland comments hilarious..... Louisiana is the reason Oakland has the current crime and racial issues.

Chinatown is terrific......Penang Garden on Washington has a Spicy Crab that is just simply amazing.

We took the trip south to Hearst Castle & found we loved it. Then took PCH north to Big Sur & had a stellar meal at LINK PCH is amazing.

We spent two weeks & could have easily spent two more. Great City......DeanintheYay link was tremedously helpful

so the forecast is calling for rain both days my wife is going to be out there. Not unexpected but very unfortunate. Are suggestions for rainy days the same?

I would love to go to Big Sur etc but chose HMB because of the closeness . she has never been to SF so was trying to incorporate as much as I could and leave the outlying areas to a trip when we have more time. Would staying in a place like HMB the saturday night and staying closer to town on Sunday make more sense in regards to pricing and getting her to the airport Monday morning? Secondly, does the hotel you pick matter all that much? While nice hotels are great experiences, I wasn't planning on spending much time there.

Dean, I will look you up on Twitter
