Only place I could stomach living near Lafayette is somewhere on the west side. It isn't overly populated and the traffic isn't shitty. You can kind of shoot in along ambassador or hit roads like fieldspan and the other that brings you directly to the interstate.

OK so let's say we pick Youngsville. How are the high speed internet options there? Is it a BFE situation where I won't be able to get internet or can I get pretty good reliable speeds?

You should stay in Lafayette and focus on the private schools. We are moving there early next year.

In Youngsville. We have cox for phone and Internet only. Hubby likes direct tv and won't use cox for cable. It's fine and fast and I don't even think we subscribe to the fastest speed available. Parents have uverse also in Youngsville and it took them years to get straight.

Youngsville seems to be the best place for us right now I think. We'll just figure out whether we want to keep them in the public or private and if private how far we want to drive each day to drop/pick them up from school.
We could always move to Franklin, La. I hear that's a hotbed of excitement.

I've lived in Laffy for 20 my kids have (18 & 16)
have been through Woodvale, Broadmoor, Edgar Martin and LHS and i wouldn't hesitate to do it again, both of those elementary schools are excellent, and the main concern/problem with LHS is over population, but taking AP and honor classes can help
but the private school are a great option if you can afford it and are able to drop off and pick up daily
As for "where to live" whats your budget? The Laffy houses market is around $115 a square ft.

I was driving around looking at houses today and the new construction I saw was $175/ square foot.

New construction is between $150-$195/ft
Middle of Lafayette around $130/ft and outskirts around $115/ft. Of course there are outliers but those are the averages
