For some reason, Atlanta has a LOT of great suburbs with charm, trees, and big yards.
Yep.
There is a reason two of Atlanta's nicknames are "The City in A Forest" and the "City of Trees."

Nicer.
More temperate climate. More green space. trees, etc.

I would highly recommend staying in a quadrant between due north and due east outside the perimeter (I-285). I enjoy Lawrenceville, but I'm old and married these days. Duluth ain't too shabby. Sandy Springs area has a lot going for it and isn't as pricey as living in a semi-safe neighborhood inside the perimeter.

The northern DFW suburbs are vast and quite nice but most of them are not as Americana like something out of an 80s movie as northern Atlanta suburbs.
The nice DFW suburbs are mostly new and relatively generic looking. The Atlanta burbs on average have bigger yards, older homes, more trees, more hills, and more variation.
Obviously DFW is more on the upswing in terms of growth if you feel that more people moving there = better for you, but it'll never have that charm. I guess the question is how long will it take for ATL burbs to lose their charm?
DFW is overall the best metro in the South for a typical middle class white collar family to move to imo, but if were in the $700k - $800k range of homes and want some privacy yet be near restaurants and shopping areas, I would prefer the ATL neighborhoods.

1.25-.5 commute to Inman park during rush hour. Maybe more if you are far from major roads , plus he is single

That's almost like suggesting Lafayette as a place to live for someone working in BR.

You’ve gotten a lot of good suggestions for neighborhoods. I would stick to something inside of the perimeter on the east side of the city where you don’t have to touch the interstate. If you have the compulsion to do otherwise, I would make sure you Google Maps your commute for your normal departure times and make sure you’re okay with it (none of the outer areas are bad in off-peak times). You’ll definitely be able to find a cheaper place to live in like North Druid Hills, but you’re going to run into student housing. Granted, by ratio, Emory has a shite-ton of postgraduates, so it’s a little more subdued. Would just be wary of that in your search.

When you get to Atlanta, turn around and drive 2 hrs either north, south, east or west and that's where you want to be.
Auburn then. Great location.

Spend a lot of time in Dallas.
For the average OTer, there is no question Dallas is better all around. It's nicer, safer, with more people like us and you have far lower levels of incompetence and crime bleed from shitty areas to good areas. Thugs don't travel 200 miles to loiter at malls in Dallas. Nice stuff can stay nice in Dallas without becoming hood rat dens.
But, Dallas nice in a boring way. Even most OT ballers will be priced out of elite areas of Dallas, whereas you can still get into some decent Buckhead neighborhoods for sub 1million (for now). Atlanta is much more aesthetically pleasing than Dallas. I think Atlanta has better short trips (better beach, better mountains). Weather is preference, I think Atlanta has milder weather but our trees cause arguably more issues when it does get bad.

Do you need to be in the office 5 days a week? Will you be travelling for work through Hartsfield Jackson?

One of the things I really do love about it.

Hot take.
It's going in the wrong direction, but it's far from a ghetto. Still by far the nicest area within CoA limits.

If you’re going to live in core parts of any major city car break ins are a thing.
I live in a "safe" suburban Birmingham neighborhood and we have rashes of car break ins a couple times of year. THey hit the neighborhood, move on to the next, then come back 5 or 6 months later. It's been that pattern for the almost 20 years we've lived here.

No, I can come and go from the office. But yes, I will be flying out a few days each week toward the end of the month.

Honestly I’d look around the Battery. Buckhead isn’t safe anymore and that’s where young professionals mingle with the Kennesaw State University crowd.
