Was just at Wrightsville Beach and loved it. Grandfather grew up there and was my first time going. Had the chance to ride around the chanels and it was beautiful. Wouldn't mind ending up there at all!

Why are Louisiana natives so afraid to leave home?

I think it has more to do with if they just want to fish when they retire

so if that is the case, Grand Isle is a pretty legit answer

It's not fear so much as satisficing. They love where they live.

You guys can list all these exotic and tranquil places all you want.

Most retirees want to be near friends and family.

Sicily Island.
Hiking in the nearby hills and there's a water fall.
Fresh Norris Spring water to drink.
Clean air.
Some paved roads.
Natives that almost speak the language.

Good luck! I have spent alot of time near Driggs. Family friend has property north of Felt. North of Driggs towards Bitch Creek is some of the prettiest country in the world man!

But most haven't lived anywhere else. There was a study posted on the OT a year or two ago showing that LA residents are the most likely to live and die where they were raised.

The world is a pretty big place

I get that. But if you are in paradise what more do you need other than a roof, food, booze?

I could live on an island for the cheap

Sounds like your typical Louisianan answer. Why are Louisiana natives so afraid to leave home?

Has nothing to do with fear. Why leave somewhere I like?

I'd bet $100 you never move to the VIs but it makes the thread more interesting.

like urin said...proximity to family

I don't actually intend to retire fully anywhere, as I'm sure I'll be near my family. But I do intend to have a summer home somewhere in the Pacific NW.

The beaches aren't bad either. Two issues for me.

1) It's very expensive
2) Inland is ugly. Flat and scrub.

St. John might be a better choice for the change that it will take to live on Providenciales although it is high on my list.
