People that have spent a decent amount of time in BR know exactly what I'm referring to. It's not as recognizable from the jump as a Cajun's accent or that Brooklyn style from New Orleans, the BR accent is some type of Cali influenced thing.

Where did this originate? What's the story behind it? Not judging, it's a Keeping Up With The Jones' at times but then again, some of the friendliest people I know have the accent in some form or fashion.

It’s a plain accent.

Just like the city.

I always thought old school BR folks had a little country twang to their accent.

Absolutely, my elderly neighbors have it and been in BR since the 1930's. The second the old man opens his mouth, I remember that God gave me two ears and to shut up because he's about to drop some knowledge. That twang is like music to my ears, but the younger BR crowd (say 50 yrs old and under) have the Valley thing more than likely manifested from the 70's and 80's at Catholic High like a poster pointed out.

I don't really know what you are talking about, but BR definitely has a unique, identifiable accent. Even though I'm from there, I don't really have it and I can't do it for other people...yet I immediately know it when I hear it.

Back in the '80s I knew BR girls who would ape anything they saw on MTV, including valley girl accents and slang.

I specifically recall one who kept saying "I'm so over you", because "everybody in New Orleans says it." Of course she didn't mean literally everybody in New Orleans. She meant the cool people, whoever they were.

Yeah, my mom grew up in BR and she has a bit of a hick/redneck accent. It comes out more when she's around her family.

I have no idea what you mean, but I will say that when I travel for work, people in CA think my accent is east coast and people in NY think my accent is west coast.

This is not a thing.

That frat boy you were hitting on was probably just a college transplant from Van Nuys.
