Welp, I guess I can update this thread to say this morning
Just found out a friend of mine from college died.

He was a fireman, and he died doing exactly what he loved.

I remember that his parents tried to deter him. They made him promise that he would go to school for 2 years, and at that point he could drop out if he wanted. Their hopes was he would fall in love with a new career path. Nope, he did his 2 years for his parents, and left to pursue his dreams.

I have nothing but respect for this man. I haven't talked to him since I graduated 5 years ago, but man, the tears are still coming. Not to mention I feel so much for his parents. They tried so hard to push him into literally any other career field. This was literally their worst nightmare, and it just came to life.

^ This.

We were long distance for 3 years, plus he would have to leave for long periods of time throughout the years. He even worked a job for a couple years where he was gone 3 weeks out of every month.

But we make 10 years together at the end of this month, and the long distance days are over. Long distance seems horrible, but it isn't impossible. Best of luck.

I experience something like this too. I’ve always struggled with relationships because I’m not very confident in the real me and my ‘imposter syndrome’ bites me in the arse. It’s very hard for me to be proud of myself no matter what I accomplished So I feel like I have to keep woman at a distance. It’s strange and me being very honest on a very public message board.

I’ve been crying on and off since Friday August 13th. My 19 year old son took his own life over a damn girl. He was a sophomore at LSU with a 3.6 GPA. Had plans to go to Law School after LSU. Nobody saw it coming. Never fought depression that we knew of. He was my only child and my whole world. No parent should ever have to bury their child. So if you have kids please go love on them. Annoy the hell out of them. Talk to them. I look back at things he would say that maybe I should have picked up on when they broke up and I blew it off as well it’s college and there I’ll be more girls and he’d be ok. I’ll never forgive myself for that. Worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life. Kids are so impulsive. Even if you think it’s no big deal; it may be to them.

When I realized in rehab I was sober for more than 24 hours for the first time over the past 5 years….that was back in 2016.
