When you move to a new town, do you get a phone number with a local area code?

Seems like now with cell phones, people stick with the same area code for years. It doesn't really make sense to get a new one. But there's something to be said for having a local area code IMO.

Yeah, the scam calls with spoofed numbers aren't as obvious.
Living in Dallas with a Louisiana number, I know immediately to ignore any Louisiana area code. Everyone I need to know is saved in my phone.

Nope. Have the same cell number since 2003. I've only had 2

This. If you're not saved in my phone, I'm not answering it.

I've kept my same number. I've thought about getting a local one because my area code is only one number different than the one I'm in now which is very confusing. Too lazy to change....

Definitely something that has changed in my lifetime. Getting a new number used to be a huge PITA and now it isn’t even a thing. For a while, companies were making people get cell phones with the area code of the primary company location but even that has stopped. Area codes dont coincide with location at all these days.

It’s really not that important. I live on the Northshore but still rock a 504 number

Everyone’s area code is just the place they lived from 2003-2007ish

I’ve been having the same personal cell number since 1998. But my work phone has a local area code.

I moved from North Carolina to Texas and kept my same number. I don't see any reason to change.

What is to be said for it? Having to send a blast text and blast emails to hundreds of people with your new contact information? Most people do not even know their siblings’ phone numbers anymore. It’s just a contact in their phone.

Really depends on what you do for work.

Recently moved out of state. I'll keep my BR number, it's what people know and it's the number all my work contacts know as my office number.

The only numbers I know off the top of my head is my wife, my brother, 1 of my sisters, FIL, and 1 of my customers(only because they call me for every fricking instead of calling their salesman).
I only know the prefix of my mom
