Mmmmk. So no food, drugs, or modern tech for them. Good luck with that.

Coming back to $100/barrel?

If you ask me, not for at least a decade.

With how easy it is to drill and frac the source rocks, we can turn on the spigot very quickly, and as soon as prices begin to climb back up, we will, and drive the price right back down again.

Exactly right. When oil moves much north of $50 the US production will ramp up quickly.

The only way that oil breaks $100 in the next ten years is a major war in the middle east. Or hyperinflation in the US (unlikely).

This is a great line that sums up a lot more than oil and gas. Restaurant owners come to mind.

Care if I borrow it from time to time?

Or price would be unaffected and US output would fall drastically while other countries would pick up the slack

If you honestly think the food grown today isn't the best in the history of man I can't help you. As for drugs, feel free to go without and see how far you get.

There are reasons why average lifespan has increased so much in developed countries and modern medicine, sanitation, and a stable/safe food supply are your primary suspects.

Of course, I wouldn't presume to say that hydrocarbons don't play a crucial role in all of this. They alone, however, are not enough.

Have you seen how much stuff on a rig can be automated? If oil hits $200 a barrel and a rig only needs 3 hands to run it, OB's are still screwed.

It will be a long time before a drilling rig is automated. All fast food will be automated first

Tesla has roofing material now that is solar panels.
When that tech is just a bit more cost effective the price of yankee heating oil will come down some more.

That will cut winter prices a tad.

It adds up to lower prices per barrel.
