The US is a lot closer to a dystopian future than people would like to admit. At this rate we’re hurtling towards it.

When the middle class succumbs to being the working poor and voting democrat.

I guess I'm a little numb to it having lived through the late 70's - high inflation, gas shortages, sharp decline in US world prestige and influence and what seemed like the imminent threat of World War 3 - "when, not if" to feel like it is most likely a cyclic thing. Perhaps when the US followed by world economy emerges from this the reset point will be a somewhat less of a high point than we've been used to for th last 40 years, but I have a feeling things will come back around. Then again, maybe they won't?

Maybe the United States itself was the ultimate bait and switch. Make it the best country in the world, everyone who has the means can move here, all other countries turn to shite, then turn the U.S. to shite. Now there’s nowhere else to go.
There’s always somewhere else to go. Maybe the powers that be realize there’s no way to fix this country and are stealing as much as possible before abandoning ship.

Why do you think companies like BlackRock have been going through and buying up so many houses?
Gonna be hard to rent to people who can’t afford the payments.

The govt will pay the rent as a benefit to the poor people who are left as renters. It's easy, Tax the rich, pay for the poors expenses to keep them voting for you and those payments go to your rich buddies who own the houses.

Bigger news is how long will the dollars you do have retain value?
US Treasury May Default as Soon as July
When was the last time you heard the US Treasury defaulting?
Quick research shows the war of 1812. The difference being of course, that in 1812 the Britts burned it down. Today, the Democrats are burning it down.

Just after the 2024 Election when they let President Nikki Haley(R) "win" and take "credit" for it.

Congress has always acted when called upon to raise the debt limit. Since 1960, Congress has acted 78 separate times to permanently raise, temporarily extend, or revise the definition of the debt limit – 49 times under Republican presidents and 29 times under Democratic presidents. We aren't defaulting.

Yeah I feel like even in my adult lifetime this has been a recurring political battle that always works itself out after both sides of the political isle try to score political points and garner some cheap publicity for themselves.

Neither side cares about the debt anymore. They both spend like drunken sailors. That will come crashing down one day when we can no longer service the debt.

We’ve been though inflation and recessions before without everything crashing down. We haven’t had a complete crash down since 1929, and that resulted in a lot of safeguards being out in place to prevent it from happening again.
It certainly can still happen, but this current situation doesn’t seem as dire as the 200& recession or the inflation in the late 70’s. Things can change on a dime though, especially with what is happening in Ukraine.

I'm Not thinking we will have a stock market crash and great depression as you reference in 1929 I'm more wondering when this economy will have to go through a deep recession because as we continue to see the rate of inflation is unsustainable and doesn't show signs of significantly moderating anytime soon.

I think what has a lot of people perplexed is the amount of spending on travel, entertainment and restaurants which seem to be even stronger than pre Covid.

Thus the increase in average credit card balances.

Think there is a lot of “making up for lost time” spending re travel, entertainment, etc

It's "revenge" travel/spending/experiences for all the time they were pent up with nothing to do and because people started to realize this is the only life we have we must enjoy it now...and when the Fed was sending out fat checks each month it made it really easy to enjoy life and spend

As soon as Powell can make it happen. That a-hole intentionally set the market on fire this morning.

For starters, we are a broke arse country, yet our corrupt politicians can’t stop sending BILLIONS of dollars to Ukraine for god knows what reason
