When was the last time you used a travel agent?

They are pretty much on the way out, right?
Is there any reason to use one nowadays?
I feel that if you want a stellar vacation, then it's OK to fork over just a little extra to know about every possibility of activity at your destination(s).
Just wondering.
My grandmother still uses one to book flights to her fam members.

I never have, but I've never been on a vacation where one was needed, if that makes sense.

I don't use them and haven't for a long time but I know one and she stays busy as can be. She does a lot of corporate and a lot of packaged trips but she has no complaints. Not much walk in traffic for individuals.

That makes sense that corporations still use it.

I actually think they are making a comeback. People are researching where they want to go online but having travel agents book so they do not have to deal with any BS. Flight change? TA handle this. Hotel issue. TA handle this.
It comes down to time. We are so freakin busy in today's world that we will gravitate to anything that saves us time and headache

Yeah, travel agents are still in demand and are still pretty widely used.
They can come in handy with international travel when people don't have any idea about visa requirements, passport requirements, currency, etc. A lot of people just don't know these things.

I still use them occasionally. They're value is in hooking you up with off-hours private tours, etc through the connections they've built at various destinations, museums...

We have a corporate travel agent to book flights for hands that aren't used to doing it. $50 to book a flight but it beats someone in management having to do it

We use one every 2 years to help with our cruise. With a group of around 50 , it helps keep things organized and they actually get us better rates.

There is a misconception that it costs more. It doesn't. They will bend over backwards for you and are more accountable than a website. Ive run into crap and they pick the phone up when you call and handle it.
I've also had them call and say a new deal has come out thats cheaper lets rebook. They know because they are looking at ithe stuff every day. Website won't do that either.

So far the responses are much different than I anticipated. I thought TAs were extinct.

We used to use an agent for our business travel 15 years ago. It is to easy to do it yourself nowadays. I book flight/hotels/rental cars weekly and it takes less than 30 minutes for all. So no.

This is why I started the thread. I've been in a TA's office once in my lifetime. Last year to help my grandmother book a flight down to see our fam. I'll be doing it again this week too.
Doubling my interaction with travel agents!
I do see how it's important to have someone handle any type of travel issue that springs up.
That makes me question are the TAs sort of "on call" in that sense? Or do you have to wait for them to open before you call them? Or does it depend if you know them or how good a customer you are?
