You have to deal up the hole they are using to get in. If you have one there will be more. You can try to eliminate them yourself but call the pros. They can find the entrance spot(s) quickly and they will put out bait boxes.

Find out where the mouse is entering the house and close it off.

Put out poison trays and/traps

Put out bait boxes outside the house.

I'm a professional

Get a shite load of the GLUE traps and some m&m's. Mice like m&m's and they are easy to stick on the traps. Put them around your baseboards and you will catch them easily. One note - they will still be alive when you catch them and you will have to find a way to kill them. Drown them in a bucket of water is the best way.

I can not strongly enough advise against this plan of attack, you will end up with a dead mouse somewhere inaccessible that you will smell FOREVER.

Poison is the weapon of the lazy in this battle.

Ask Santa for a pellet rifle and night vision goggles. Trust me, it's better than any video game ever!

Where are you located? If you are on the Northshore, I'll come get the mice from you if they are still alive on the traps. I feed my boa two small mice every week.

There are only three things you can do; 1. Poison 2. Trap 3. Exclude them from getting in.

If it's mice good luck with that third one they are so damn small they only need the tiniest hole to get in. I would still seal any holes just to be safe. If they aren't living in the house seal them up during the day. Rodents are nocturnal and could just be coming in to find food. If there is evidence they live there seal it up and place lots of traps.

Aside from this a professional can put a bait box outside that has poison and the rodent will think it's food so they don't come inside. If there are burrows they can put a certain poison in the holes that the rodents won't kick out of the burrow.

I'll break the terrifying news to you. You most likely don't have a mouse. It might be a big arse wood rat. I know because this happened to me about 4 years ago in an apartment I used to stay in.

The female wood rat usually try to find somewhere warm around this time of year to make a nest to have babies. If your trap fails, sometimes they are smart enough not to fall for the same trap again.
