Lots of pediatricians will tell you to go at least a year, up to to 2 years. There are some crunchy moms that will breastfeed for 4+ years which is ridiculous to me.

I could be off a little but I think I recall that 80% of the benifit from breastfeeding are done with the first 6 weeks. My son had a full mouth of teeth by the time he was a year old. I can't imagine having that latch on to anything with lout doing damage.

My wife stopped after 6.5 years. Tasted like Kleinpeter's Golden Guernsey milk from my childhood days.

How long before the well runs dry so to speak?

Cows have to have calves to keep it going.

Never, we want to suck on Mommy and the Governments titties the rest of our lives.

When the baby gets teeth

This. My ex-wife breastfed our kids and would complain when they began biting her.

So I'm like, "Well, maybe it's time to quit?"

Babies usually start getting their teeth around 9 to 12 months, so I'd think that is adequate.

My son got sick once before he turned two. While mostly anecdotal, that's pretty common for breastfed children.

My son turned two in December and has never been sick. He was formula fed because my wife had to have an emergency c-section and had complications. Guess we got lucky. Seems like most of his little friend, both breast and formula fed, are constantly sick with something.

Can I assume both these kids are only children and arent in daycare?

The breast milk gives the infant antibodies that the baby wont produce on his own for the first couple months.

That's when my wife shut 'em down and put them on the bottle.

My son spent time in my wife's elementary school classroom and a day school. Yes he is an only child.

My kid was mostly formula fed and spent a lot of time with other kids as an infant. First antibiotic was given to her at the age of 3. Not an only child.

when the kid starts asking mom to wear specific outfits, it's probably time to quit.

my wife pumped and breastfed for 1 year. After his first birthday, he drank her supply of breast milk that we had in the freezer. Once that ran out, he went to whole milk.

When she wants to.

It's still a free country, mostly.

Some of the sickliest kids I know were breastfed that long.

Wife is breastfeeding our son until 2 as recommended. Hopefully she stops then because it takes up way too much time.
