lsupride87 - "Covid ICU survival is higher than Overall ICU survival and units are constantly close to capacity whether or not covid exists. You need to find new talking points"

Wasn't hard to find that you are wrong.
quote:

The head of the Utah Hospital Association this week warned the situation is getting so dire that hospitals there might soon need to ration care. Hospitals in North and South Dakota are seeking staff reinforcements to care for patients in crowded intensive care units. And in Wisconsin, hospitals are opening makeshift ICU wings even as they desperately look for nurses and other clinicians to staff the facilities.

quote:

“We can keep converting ICU space,” said Jeffrey Pothof, an emergency room doctor in Madison, Wisconsin. “But the constraint will be the staffing … that’s the thing that worries us the most right now.”

Hospitals overwhelmed: Exhausted staffs, surging COVID-19 cases push nation's limits

You need to find new talking points.

Better yet, instead of "talking points" try something new.

They're called "facts."

You're quoting clickbait media and using an incredibly small sample size to prove a point. You could easily go to most hospitals in the US and find them not close to overwhelmed.

Don't know how quoting the head of the Utah Hospital Association or an ER doc in Wisconsin can be considered clickbait.

Are you saying they are lying and thus must be ignored?

Just because it doesn't fit your perspective doesn't make it untrue.

The OP said there was no ICU shortage, and for these States he was dead wrong.

A relative takes care of ICU covid patients. He has been on deer stand everyday for the 8 days now. He isn't stressed out by it, just more cautious and deliberate at work.

Wearing a properly fit-tested N-95 mask all day would suck.

It’s normal for nurses to promote themselves as heroes and victims. They’ve been doing it for years.

I appreciate pilots every time I fly. Whenever I disembark I always tell the pilots “Nice landing.”

PTSD is least common in combat arms roles.

Wait, you don’t know why using one ancestral story from a singular hospital is considered clickbait?

Nurses specifically are making tons of money for overtime. $50 more an hour type money. Travel nurses are being offered $7000+ per week with 8-12-16 week length contracts. Just insane.

Where is this occurring?

My wife is a respiratory therapist. She gets an additional $21 per hour when picking up extra shifts plus the pay differentials normally received. Nurses at her hospital are getting about the same.

I thought the same thing.

I know people in the industry. They get paid more and have to take more precautions when they work.

Tons of people outside of healthcare industry have had to adjust too. Most of these people who still have jobs are not getting paid more and are getting paid less.

My complaint is that this is what their industry was built for. You know you’re dealing with peoples diseases and viruses on a daily basis in that industry. I appreciate the work they do but there is nothing special about them.

Healthcare workers are just like garbage men. They have to constantly deal with your trash on a daily basis but it’s something they are compensated for doing and knew going into it.

I think it is the media saying these things to create drama and hype. Sure people who work a high stress job deal with burn out, regardless of the issue of the day. I think most people in healthcare know what they signed up for and accept it for what it is worth.

If a nurse works a 12 hour shift prior to COVID-19 or now, they are working 12 hours, what’s the difference?

They were used to sitting around the main desk gossiping about the young Dr's and who they were fricking. Now they don't have as much time for that at work so they have to stay up late texting their co-workers about who's fricking who.

People who see real hardship are the least likely to complain about it.

Hardship is humbling. Pain is humbling.
