Woman stopped for ducks and caused the deaths of 2 people.

If you stop, just don't be a dumbass.

Cats however, I will swerve and run those bastards all the way to the door of the Chinese restaurant before stopping.

Pull the emergency brake and turn the wheel to the left and let off the E brake. The car slides sideways to a stop. The only way to deal with a squirrel.

Explain the relevancy of the bold part. You point it out as though it's an important detail, as though something about him and all people driving pickups has anything to do with hitting squirrels.

I don't intentionally hit squirrels, can't even remember if I've ever hit one because that's about as much care I would have if I did. I let off and coast past, I don't look back to check.

Typically, what's going to happen is going to happen.

I'm driving a multi-ton vehicle around other vehicles, folks (including kids) and shite, so frick you aight?

Having said that, if it is reasonable and safe to give the little guy a chance, I do that. But, I'm not risking damage to my vehicle or injuries because he gambled on his speed and decision making.

Same rule for ducks, geese, dogs, cats, etc. Strangely enough, I've gotten as many cats as dogs over the years - roughly 3 of each driving ~35 years. I think I'm at 5 or 6 squirrels.

I feel bad about every dog and squirrel.

Nothing. With pigeons we have an agreement; they get out of the way when we walk through and we look the other way on the statue defecation. But the squirrels, we don't have any agreement with them.

I recently had to have a flat repaired. Tire store guy showed me a small bucket of recent objects he had removed from flat tires. There was a bunch of road kill bones in there. He said it happens all the time. Not sure if squirrel bones could puncture a tire but I guess anything is possible.

Compassion (or lack thereof) for the smallest of God’s creatures is an accurate insight into the character (or lack thereof) of a man.

My grandpa always told me that I shouldn't swerve to avoid small animals because I might cause an accident although he was a little overzealous about it and seemed to swerve to hit animals.

I will try to stop and avoid it as long as it's safe to do so.
