I dunno man. My kids are grown. Maybe they’re average. But two of them were national merit scholars and all three graduated college with honors, so I dunno. Sleep? Yeah I guess I sleep okay, although occasionally I need a little chemical help. I’m glad your kid achieves the best version of themself by playing ball. Best of luck to them.
I’m glad your low effort parenting was salvaged by your kids’ brains. Let’s not pretend you put any high energy into their academics either when traveling to a park on Saturday was too much energy.

Are we still talking playing ball games?

The reality is the average travel ball kid will go play Juco at a Juco you didn’t know existed before for a coach who didn’t know it existed and can’t wait to leave.
Heaven forbid a kid works towards a goal or a dream, even if he falls short. As long as he gets up, finds another path, and fights to make it happen, it’s fine.
It’s infinitely better than having a kid who locks himself in his room, keeps his face in front of a screen as long as he is awake, as he dyes his long unkempt hair blue, and suffers from a combination of anxiety and depression, and is doomed to die at a young age of a fentanyl overdose, or worse, commit suicide.

Sure when the topic was about travel baseball. If my kid’s best at 16-17 isn’t good enough for his school, then it is what it is, but it’s my intent to do our best to make my kid the best version of himself to get to that point.

Slippy either never played ball or has a ton of comic books on his shelf at home. Or his kids wanted nothing to do with playing sports.
So kids can't love both a sport AND comics? Alright Jaxxynn, throw the goddamn **** supermans in the trash, coach is meeting us at the cage.

Exactly how much crossover do you expect between travel baw kids and going to a DIII school, which by definition does not award athletic scholarships, and largely skews small liberal arts college?

12yo, chit gets a little more real in the right tournaments.

because travel ball "culture" is very easy to make fun of, everyone here knows these people irl, and the defenders of travel ball are easy to rile up.
It’s not as rampant as this board makes it out to be

I hate to burst your bubble, buddy, but 3 kids in the past year around here have blown their brains out, and the travel ball/feeder football world mourned.
I just don't think some of you have your eyes open to see the "elite athletes" also have their faces in their phones, hair dyed blue, and screaming for help but daddy ignores it because he's only got Braxxxtyn on weekends since the divorce...

I’ve seen 11 year old teams that can probably beat most 8th grade and 9th grade high school teams

My point is I don’t think it’s fair to lump all travel ball parents into the overzealous living vicariously through their kids’ success (or lack thereof) type.
Some kids genuinely enjoy baseball and competition, and have some good friends who are nice kids on their team. And baseball gives them something fun to focus on, and it keeps them out of trouble. Some parents have the financial means to help their kids improve, so they do it. Who are you to misinterpret their actions, and wrongly judge them based on it?
And so what if he ends up at an obscure junior college? At least he tried. It’s a lot more than a lot of other kids (with blue hair) can claim.

Like it or not, but this happens a lot more than you may want to acknowledge.
Oh I know it does to an extent but if a kids a flat out stud no money or coach will be able to keep him off the field . That’s in any sport

Wait, quality parenting is judged not by their academic achievement, but by their grade school sports achievements?
I know way more great at sports in grade/high school burnouts than great at academics burnouts in the real world.

I would comment but the only kid from my friend group who dedicated himself to travel ball wound up making $50 million in the big leagues.

With all the bs in todays society, you have to find something to keep the youth busy. You find something they are interested in and spend a good bit of spare time doing that. Most kids aren’t going pro, but it will help them stay away from trouble that comes with too much idle time in todays society.

Wish I could agree with this, but I've seen the opposite happen many times. Local politics, local cliques, not having the right "last" name, not living in the right neighborhood. Yeah, it happens all the time.
