The last 4 years have plateaud somewhat. I bring in today what I brought in 2006. So long as AI doesn't take my job, I can do this for 15-20 more and retire comfortably.

27. Have made decent gains since then (33 this year). Wife makes about 40% more though, so we have no complaints

I’m not typical OT where 95% have been making over 100K since their 20s. I’m 63 and only recently went over the 100K mark combining my current salary and retirement income.

Call it all you want...but its true. And last year isn't this year. We've had two plus years of high inflation and a booming oil industry. Industry wide brain drain and people retiring early because of covid BS has left a shortage.

A large % of graduating engineers want to be in green/renewable fields. Those interested in dirty/nasty/evil crude oil and willing to get their hands dirty (ie not work in an office) can make very good $ right now. A willingness to not be in Houston is a big leg up as well.
