The tattoo craze started before millenials were old enough to drive.

Yeah, it really started building steam in the early 90's.

The same time being trashy became the "in" thing. The 1990s.

I think they started getting "popular" because of Miami Ink and shows like that.

A lot of the hair metal bands from the late 80's were covered in tats. Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx come to mind.

I saw an old woman about 70 with a pierced lip the other day. She was all stooped over and looked 'rode hard and put up wet'. If she had any successful grandkids I'm sure they would never come around.

It's transcended a lot of stereotypes.

My 33 year old homeschool wife got one in December and I was all WTF? You're a soccer mom and we're baptist. We don't do that crap.

I noticed them becoming popular in the 90s. Tribal arm bands were big back then. It just kept going from there.

Originally a sign of individuality, it's now so fricking cliche its farcical. Glad I never joined the fad.

Uh.... Hmmmm. Not just yet.

If it makes you feel better - I think of the character in your avi as "Pectus" instead of Brendan.

A girl at work got a tattoo, pierced belly button, lost weight, and dumped her husband all in about a 6 month span.
