So what has caused people to suddenly become germophobic?
When you see adults coming out of the shitters and not washing their hands, you can grab all the door handles and self serve food at the buffet you want. I'm out.

If I had to guess, all this “Safe” shite everywhere you look, helicopter parenting bubble wrapping their kids, not going outside to play, bottled water, helmets and knee pads to skate or ride a bike, and other such paranoia has made people pretty weird over the years.
I was noticing just the other day how often the word “safe” is used in commercials, and it’s astounding.
The phrase “Be Safe” has gotten way out of control.

Infant Mortality: Its History and Social Construction
More sanitary environments and more of a focus on pediatrics are given as primary reasons for the decrease in infant mortality.

putting on gloves to pump gas
I've never done that, but touching a gas pump is just as disgusting as touching handles in a public restroom. I'm not going to judge anybody for that.

Life expectancy after 60 years old compared around the world. The US, and all its germophobes, is 43rd on the list. Look how that compares as far as being "sanitary" & "hygiene". Mexico Vietnam and Cuba? Open air meat markets? Water you can't drink?

I can't imagine you're born that way, like being gay, So what has caused people to suddenly become germophobic?
Its an obsessive compulsive disorder imo. Its just they obsess over being clean, or washing germs off. Thats how I've always seen/heard of it being treated at least, as OCD.

It's simple mental illness.
It's exactly what happens when you force feed education to brains that really aren't meant to be educated. It actually causes them to become ill.
Like Stouts thread about IQ and perception. The Doctor of biology is the dumbest of the group. Some people's brains can absorb information, but being able to process that information is something entirely different.

Social media.
So much misinformation. Gullible people believe anything.

Now you're excluding every other variable for deaths of the elderly???? Again, irrational.
People die for a variety of reasons, and I'd say years and years bad "diet" is a primary cause for elderly deaths in America. I worked in a hospital getting prepared for a massive number of COVID patients and I saw what the sick elderly were getting for food and drinks. It was atrocious. The body can only take so much of that before it breaks down.
There are a lot of other factors to look at for the elderly, including suicide rate. Attempting to isolate and discount hygiene is absurdly irrational.

Huh? I'm taking out children because the stupid f**** wearing gloves to pump gas aren't children. Using 1850s life expectancy, which has a key contribution of infant mortality, to justify an adult using his feet to open up restroom door....is irrational.

I’d be happy if old people just learned how to not cough into their hand.

You're excluding much more than children when you go all the way to fricking 60. Holy frick. That's why I asked your age.
You're making irrational correlations. Are you mentally ill? You tried to use the Civil War Era to support you being offended and irrational. Obviously that's stupid. There are a myriad of factors why life expectancy has gone up. Better hygiene is a primary factor. Again, no one told you they'd extend their life span avoiding a door handle. They are most likely generally repulsed by people like you and don't want to get sick.

I showed you a 16 year difference in the us for 20 year olds from 1850 to modern day.
What portion of that 16 years in your "mind" is attributed to:
1. Hygiene, hand sanitizers, & gloves
2. Medical procedures & antibiotics/medicine
The modern day "after 60 life expectancy" comparison across the globe is to further highlight that the "higher hygiene standards" in the US don't comparatively correlate to longer life spans.
You can get antibiotics anywhere in the world, not everywhere in the world has hand sanitizer every 6 ft.

You seem to be stuck on life span because I pointed out how irrational and absurd it was to go back to the Civil War Era to support your point about being unhygienic. You're missing that quality of life is just as important or more important to people. Cleanliness is part of that quality of life. You're just offended and complaining because you see other people with different standards for cleanliness than you.

Do people realize that they didn't have toilet paper until after the US civil war?
You mean back when it was common for people to die from something like diarrhea and would get killed by easy to avoid infections we basically no longer worry about?

Life expectancy is data that can be compared to other benchmarks....your emotions and fears are not.
