Damn.
They should rebrand it with her real name and likeness and create a scholarship fund for her descendants. Put the historic information you mentioned on the back of the box.

literally just removed the likeness
Lol. As if the name "Aunt Jemima" doesn't carry more baggage than a picture of an actual person.

That’s along my line of thinking as well, if even keeping the name of Aunt Jemima and changing it to her likeness with her story on the back. It would do a lot more to right wrongs than hiding from it does.
I personally have a long standing tradition of reading the back of cereal boxes, grits, etc when eating breakfast. It would definitely catch my attention and I could come away with a new perspective to start my day, as could countless others. I’d also suggest putting the Nancy Green story on their website.

Imagine being a black person and thinking the Democrats are doing you a favor.

I’m really not sure if there is any bigger injustice you could do to a woman born into slavery, who put pancakes on the map in America, and who dies in a terribly tragic accident and is buried in a paupers grave than to wipe her out of history by removing the very likeness of her that brought people together, doing away with any opportunity to remember her every time you mix up some pancakes or put syrup on your pancakes, or have a likeness that could serve as a talking point at dinner tables around the country of black people’s contributions in American history for years to come.
You’re right, this is the worst thing to happen to her.
Not the whole, recipe being taken and used at a huge profit while she gets buried in a paupers grave thing.
And it’s not her face on the bottle or her name.

Quaker doesn’t care about Aunt Jemima’s legacy. It’s inconvenient for them, in fact.
You have to crack a few eggs to make a pancake.

Just like the white man... remove the Indian, keep the land.

Anyone else shocked there was a black woman named Nancy Green?
Nope. Green was a very common name in parts of the south that were settled by folks from the British Isles. Slaves took the names of their owners. Nancy is a very pretty first name.

The Aunt Jemima recipe was not her recipe, but she became the advertising world's first living trademark.
Wiki - Nancy Green
She was just a spokesmodel for it. Recipe was probably created by a group of evil white guys.

The weird part about it is, they canceled themselves. Black people were not in large talking about this. It was during the time period last year after all the riots, when every organization was posting Black Lives Matter on their website in order to show how not racist they are.
Aunt Jemima figured the best way to not be racist was to delete the black representation from their branding. Act like Nancy Green or the other women whose likeness was used ever existed.
Personally, I think they should have kept the imaging, but made a conscious effort to actually honor Mrs. Nancy Green. Maybe share her story on the back of the box. Maybe work a deal with the descendants of Mrs Green. Chances are, Nancy Green or the other Aunt Jemimas were never properly compensated, they could have worked to change that.

Use black people in advertisements: “that’s racist OMG Uncle Ben and Aunt Jemima nooooo!”
Don’t use black people in advertisements: “that’s racist! Our people need to be represented! Diversity now, diversity forever! More black voices need to be heard!”
The only way to win is to not play. At least until they put you through your struggle session and ultimately into a labor camp.

Couldn’t agree more.

I really don’t think that’s an option.
