You’re lucky. Many years ago I had a cop make a u-turn across the canal opposite direction on vets in JP and ticket me. I didn’t realize it has expired.

It’s visual proof of insurance, in theory, I think that’s the biggest reason.

The inspectors get a few dollars per sticker, they’re not busing arse for that.

Last brake tag I bought was in 2006. I briefly had one in 2019, but that’s only because it came with the car

I’d rather pay the fine when I get ticketed for inspection sticker than go thru the hassle of getting a new one ever year.

It's a scam by the state police. They get most of the monies for their retirement funds I believe.
