Yes, as an unavoidable expense at the margin. My consumption of gasoline is highly inelastic. I'm almost literally indifferent to the price. Somehow you took that to mean I would happily onboard avoidable non-expenses (such as randomly Venmoing poors).

In any event, if you really do need the money, we can talk. Are you in a medical situation?

If $2,000 per YEAR is such an issue to you, maybe you should reconsider that cable/internet bill you pay every month.

Given her demonstrated IQ, I actually think she's landed on the perfect gig to max out her earnings potential: falling on the mercy of her betters.

They also don't get rich by wasting their money on buying a lot of crap.

Very true. An old timer friend of mine is worth millions and will pull over and pick up stuff on the street that's listed for free.

He knows all the best discount days and waits for meat to be discounted.

I love the OT. How many times should I ignore a $2k increase in costs before I'm given the dreaded poor label?

Premium is very spendy and increases are just starting despite what Brandon and his congressional greenies say.

I'm not poor, and I'm not rich. But years ago I did something that made a difference in my finances today.

I cut the cable (actually a tree branch fell on it, pulled the fascia off my house, so I cut it with bolt cutters), I cancelled about a half-dozen subscription services, brought my insurance policies in line with my needs, and a few other things that each separately didn't seem like much, but it turned out I was saving a little over $500 per month from what I had been spending. This was the money that I started using for my Roth IRA - which I previously thought I couldn't afford.

That was over 10 years ago. Do the math. Don't forget interest.

So I wasn't calling you poor, I was being serious. I spend money on entertainment, but it's conscious now, not that insidious death by a thousand cuts that you never even notice kind of cost - often times for things you don't really use or even remember.

One other tip, invest your savings in the energy sector. If that's not a growth market, nothing is. And when the price of energy goes up, your earnings can outpace your increased energy expenses. I rejoice at $100/bbl oil.

I don't go that far, but I have stopped accumulating so much shite. Less is more is the aesthetic I'm shooting for now.
