Other than the paddle, pickleball is a cheap hobby for me. Paddle cost me $200 but it will last at least one year.

I konw guys (that aren't that good) that carry around a very expensive bag. That probably also includes gadgets and stuff, but still kind of crazy. When I was younger and played more, I could've waxed any one of them without a range finder or custom irons.

What is your point? Maybe you’re just better at golf? Custom clubs and range finders can definitely Improve your game. Maybe you would’ve played much better if you had clubs with the proper loft angle, shaft flex and length etc. I live around a golf Mecca and no one is spending 20k on clubs

A grown man shouldn't have "hobbies"

People on this board who complain about millenials and kids these days need to take a hard look at themselves.

Maybe try raising your kids the right way instead of playing pickle ball 6 nights a week and spending 4 months of weekends at "the camp".

can afford a $100k bass boat but it just seems idiotic at that point so would move into some other hobby.

Or you could shop around and get a used cheaper one and keep your hobby

ETA--my only bottom line is if I can get by with it without pissing off my wife.

I tried this strategy last year and spent $5k plus on gun parts to assemble

She didn't complain, she just saw it as an opportunity to up her online ordering

I decided to rethink the strategy.

So grown men shouldn't fish, hunt, golf, play video games, read books, etc...?

A coworker of mine golfs a ton. Multiple trips out of state a year and when his kids don’t have anything going on he’s on a course within an hour or two from here,

Last winter I dropped around 10k on equipment to make maple syrup and at work one day the golfing coworker was stunned when I told him this. He couldn’t believe that someone would spend that much money on a hobby, so I asked him how much he spent per year on golf from trips, equipment, fees, transportation, etc. He enjoys golfing and I don’t so I don’t understand why he’d spend the money he does on golf. Our respective things give us enjoyment so if it makes you happy and can afford it who the hell cares?

My hobby is putting up a huge Christmas light display every year, which has grown tremendously over time. Once a year I buy replacement/extra lights, usually about $1,000 or so. That means my hobby averages about $83 per month. That’s pretty good in the whole scheme of things.

I have a wakeboard boat and travel an insane amount for leisure. Wife and I are high earners with no kids yet so I'm sure something will change once H2O Jr. comes in the picture.

20k on golf clubs?

I know people who buy new clubs every year. Add in range finders, ProV1’s and grounds fees and it adds up. Add in the cart many of them buy.

K, that still doesn’t equal the post I was replying to about someone buying 20k clubs. I have 2500 in pings, a range finder, and green fees range from 100-400. It’s really not that serious, I enjoy it and it’s a time for me to spend with my friends and talk shop.

What? Everyone should have hobbies regardless of age, this is a ridiculous opinion
