I know this to be factually true. I'll never buy another BMW.

I only buy cars manufactured in very specific Japanese ZIP codes.

Are you going to tune it? You can get some serious power out of that motor! 710hp with just a tune!
I want to but don’t want to void my warranty.

Just get the Lexus NX 2022

It's because luxury cars are overrated now. You can get a "non-luxury" brand car that has all of the same features as a luxury brand, but is cheaper to own and will last longer.

My first car out of college was a BMW....expensive and tempermental and I hope to never own another one.

They are POS cars, my mom had one… granted it lasted about 18 years but stupid stuff broke on it all the time and it cost a fortune to fix

There was a time when BMW really was the Ultimate Driving Machine and I wanted a 3 Series but was too young to afford one. Back in the late 90s early to early 00s BMW had yet to be corrupted from its mission and you could get a 3 Series with a stick and they had the best steering feel of nearly anything on the planet.
Nowadays... no thanks.

I was thinking about getting a used M series because it was only a couple years old and the same price as the ES-350 F-Sport I was looking at new. Similar luxury styling with much better performance. So I check out the reviews.
Car and Driver was fawning over this car like it was the best thing to come out in 20 years. Hmm ok, looks like it could be a winner. Then I keep reading and the summary went something like this:
“We experienced almost no issues with the vehicle during our 30k mile test drive. We did have to stop at ~ 10k miles at a dealership and have a sensor replaced which ran ~ $800, and after 23k miles (something broke) which was another $1.2k. Cost of an oil change (every 10k miles) runs about $400 at the dealership.”
Uhh, no thanks…

quote:When I was growing up, my dad was a big fan of older BMWs (therefore I was too). We had a late 70s 2002, a handful of late 80s E30 3 series, and one 91 5 series over the years. He loved finding them in the classifieds, working on them, and giving them to my siblings and I.
They are extremely unreliable after the first few years of ownership, and are expensive as hell to repair and get parts for
He eventually bought a brand new Bimmer for his everyday driver, and it ended up having a very expensive maintenance issue pop up almost the minute after the 4/50k manufacturer warranty expired. He was so irate that he dumped it immediately and switched to Lexus. Completely turned him off BMW.

Because they do not have blinkers.

quote:I highly doubt any here down talking BMW, has ever owned one. Their argument is akin to someone talking shite about someone's choice to buy name brand clothing, instead of just buying pants and shirts from Walmart. I mean, afterall, they both do the same thing, amirite?
But they're Toyotas and Hondas.
I always find these threads on the OT funny. They are very much akin to the "I cut my own grass threads", where people think they're demonstrating moral superiority by spending less money than others.
While I don't have a BMW, I do have an "expensive" car that I got for various reasons of my own choosing (e.g., styling and performance). Yes, it costs more to obtain and maintain than a Toyota, Honda, Acura or Lexus. I'm fine with that for right now.

Come back in 7 years and itemize all of the maintenance and repair costs. You'll see why rational people avoid buying BMWs very quickly. They are more of a "lease it" kind of car.
They break down at least as frequently as Fords or Fiats, but costs vastly more to repair. They might be worse than Jaguar or Land Rover right now. There are countless used BMWs on the market with less than 100,000 miles and long list of deferred maintenance items because the owners can't afford to make the necessary repairs.

Plastic parts. My biggest beef.

Really wealthy people sit in stop and go traffic right?
In everyplace but NYC, pretty much. Warren Buffet drives to work every day in a Cadillic. Bill gates was driving to work in a Ford Explorer. A few people I personally know that are worth 50-600 million dollars drive everyday in a varity of vehicles.
