What's with scam robocallers putting me on hold when I press '1' to talk to them?

They know it's a real number with a real person on the other end.

Marks you as a “live” line. You’ll get moar and moar until you just stop answering.

Pushing whatever number to get put in the DNC list doesn’t do shite. Telling the workers to not call you doesn’t work. Just stop answering unless you know the number.

Point me to some evidence that the strategy of not answering will reduce the number of calls.

I stopped answering the phone unless it’s a number I know.

I tried, but I wasn't going to wait on hold any longer.

I told them I definitely wanted to extend my warranty.

They asked for year/make/model.

Told them 1974 VW Beetle

They hung up on me and never called back.

The call screening feature on the new version of Android is awesome. They always just hang up.

Did you notice any change in the number of these robocall?

Seems like they just come in waves no matter what and I can't appreciate any rhyme or reason as to how they would get reduced or not.

I tried to sign up for affordable health care. During my interview, she asked me how many kids I wanted to insure and when I told her all 12, she hung up on me. Still didn’t stop the calls tho. I laugh sometimes, both my wife and my phone will start ringing at the same time from the same number.

This is correct, their only business is mining for live numbers which they sell to other robo-call companies who get more money for their calling because they can claim a higher percentage of live hits when they sell their services.
