Of course it does! Modern “alternative” music is mostly really lame because it’s not even alternative rock anymore. It’s mostly just white people, many of them british, making bland rap and edm.

I hate it when they try and justify EDM and good to listen to

The only theory that makes sense is that it must sound really good on molly and ecstasy.

I honestly don't think you have listened to very much music if you say this. I honestly don't know where you get your conceptions from.

Cool story Anecdote Andy. It does not disprove my general thesis that dad rock is generally considered lame by kids these days.
And if you are cool with 50 year olds you are probably thought of as weird by your peers.
Kind of like if you dress like them?
All of the kids wearing 80s mom jeans, coke shirts and Doc Martens say hi

The reason why most stick to rap and country is because that’s what most millennial women listen to. Men go where the women go and put on what the women want to listen to while drunk to keep them around long enough to get frisky.
Follow the pussy. A tale as old as time.

How is that definitive enough to make such a massive generalization, and not something like Sirius XMU? Gorilla vs Bear and other curated shows probably have a larger audience reach than some shitty terrestrial radio channel. Hipster Runoff (I guess technically Carles) and Brooklyn Vegan probably do too.
There has honestly been an incredible amount of amazing music produced the last 30 years that has never made it to terrestrial radio. Even using Pitchfork as a guide is better than using terrestrial radio.

Boston - underrated band
Allman Brothers - one of the all-time greats
Steve Miller Band - decent but you're losing momentum here
Van Halen - meh
The Who - Great band but completely overshadowed by their contemporaries. The Ken Norton of rock.
Motley Crue - awful, absolutely fricking awful
Rush - worst band of all time

Well I blame the record labels on the way music has evolved. While there is music I like today, I probably don't like more music that is put out today than in the past. If that makes sense.
7-8+ years ago I thought with streaming, the music industry would eventually come back to more authentic music. I thought streaming would allow artist to do their own thing, but I guess its all about being "trendy".
As far as hard rock, the closest thing I have come across lately is a black dude named Ayon Jones.

Well, when I am commenting on the status “alternative” music as portrayed by terrestrial radio, I would imagine using the local “alt” station would be the most natural example, no?

There are alot of modern good bands right now

Why wouldn't using Sirius's alt channel, which shares a massive overlap with their college rock channel, not be more relevant? Both channels would play someone like King Grizzard, Ty Seagal, and Gus Dapperton, while none of those artists would probably make it to terrestrial radio. Seagal, in particular, is inspired by mainstream sources, and I would be surprised if he got any mainstream play even though he has a solid discography.
I'm just saying it seems like the source from where you get your generalizations isn't representative of the scene currently. It's pretty clear by your statements in this thread too.

I got it with my two of my last car purchases, and kept it because it introduced me to an alarming amount of new artists. You can yell at them once a year to keep the price down.

My opinion: the worst music EVER made was the whining, blacklove crap from the 80s/90s like BoyzIIMen, etc. I HATE it but my lady loves it.
