Recently moved and seems like all I’ve been seeing and hearing lately are ads for dental work or cleaning and X-ray specials.. get a new flyer seemingly every day in the mail. Seems tacky as hell to me. What happened to the small town guy with his name out front

Advertising seems tacky? That's weird. Business owners use it to, you know, drive customers to their business.

Seems like a survival mechanism.

Idk, it just seems off-putting to me being that it’s healthcare as opposed to something like the Popeyes chicken sandwich

Just watch the news at any point and realize how much you hate BR injury lawyers. It's nauseating. I would never use these guys just because they are annoying AF CONSTANTLY. It makes watching the local news absolutely miserable sometimes. I wish commercials could go to auto mute.

What really confuses me is the number of people here in Shreveport who have multiple car magnets from their orthodontist. It's at least a couple cars at every stop light and it's all different orthodontists. I just don't get why someone would find it cool to put 3 or so of those magnets on their car....but it's rampant

The advertise because there are way too many Dentist. The only other way for them to get patients is to scam medicaid.

What is more annoying is going in for a routine cleaning and xrays now, and getting hit up for all kinds of unnecessary add on work. This has only been noticeable to my friends/family and I in about the last 10 years.

Colonel Angus The deep cleaning nonsense is getting completely out of control. I believe the ADA requirement to "qualify" for a "deep cleaning" is a 5mm periodontal pocket. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who does not have at least one 5mm pocket somewhere in their mouth; but in my humble opinion, this does not always warrant a deep cleaning and more frequent follow-up. But the reimbursement is way higher for it, so go figure

Advertising makes the business world function. Otherwise how would one know about available brands, choices, etc.

You don't hear anything from the good/fair ones. They are booked up for months.

yeah, seems like walking through a Jamaican flea market to go to the dentist anymore, I think the market must be getting saturated and the margins thin, I've just about got my dentist's staff trained to cut that nonsense out with me, told them if the dentist didn't have such a nice set of tits I wouldn't be there in the first place

My father in law doesn't even have a website, but if you miss your appointment or change it you're looking at waiting 5-6 weeks before you can get scheduled again

don't know if it was illegal or just considered gauche but until circa late 70s, early 80s, docs/dentists, and lawyers did not publicly advertise

But no one thinks it's OK for attorneys to advertise. I see dental ads, plastic surgery ads, ENT ads, Foot specialist ads, Gas ads, mud mat ads, AIDs awareness ads, etc and all you guys want to complain about is lawyer and dentist ads. it is selective outrage and it is weird.

You’ve averaged one post per every month and a half over the past 11 years.

Maybe LSU as #1 in the AP has shook you loose?
