It’s mainly for purchasing alcoholic beverages where you just quickly flash it, and the cashier or waiter or bartender or stadium vendor pretends to see it to confirm your DOB.
I’d say for most that would be much more common than law enforcement, airport security, hotel or car rental encounters where one would need to remove and hand it to them.

So you can easily see that you didn’t lose it. Flip open and presto its there so I didn’t leave it at the bar. Otherwise you would have to reach into the sleeve its in and pull it out to verify you still have it.

The only place that’s actually scanned mine is when I pick up something from the pharmacy. I’ve also learned from picking up prescriptions for family members from local pharmacy’s and even CVS that as long as you know the person’s name and birthday no other questions are asked. They do scan the barcode but still give me the prescription without question.

I still carry wallet, car fob with house key, and wear a watch because I’m 60 and it feels weird not to.

In what seems to me to be the not so distant past (1980s and 1990s), this sentence would have made absolutely ZERO sense to anyone, and those of us who heard someone utter such insanity would probably have called the police to perform a welfare check on you as well as search for some really good drugs at your domicile.

I thought that’s why they had those calendars sitting right there on the counter with the exact last legal date displayed. I wouldn’t be surprised if those people can’t even read a calendar, though.
