A tree fell on one of my client's properties. I notified the property owner, who lives out of town, and he sent me a text asking if I could take care of it. Before answering, I consulted with a tree service, who gave me a quote. I then texted the owner back saying I could take care of it...for several hundred dollars more that the tree service's quote. The property owner accepted the price and I made a decent payday without lifting a finger.

I realize this is chump-change compared to some of you OT ballers, but I'm curious; what's the most money you've made without doing any actual work?

by January after Katrina I was getting three paychecks but only doing one job. One from my pre storm employer that was closed, one from a cleanup contractor that I had a contract with but finished early, and another from one of the FEMA administrator engineers that I was doing research for

It was nice while it lasted

That’s a pretty weak example.
But since you brought up something like this I had part of a neighbors tree fall on my detached carport and my insurance company gave me a very generous pay out. I came out $5k or so ahead

I found $500 in a money clip on a sidewalk in Vegas. I was pretty drunk and called the cops. They hung up on me.

I “oversaw” the transaction of the schematics of a state of the art sonar communication transmitter designed specifically for dugongs. A cool seven figure profit and all I had to do was a bit of schmoozing to those birdbrains at Panasonic while my staff handled the legwork.

I got contracted to kill a guy one time. After the initial payment, the guy died of a heart attack before I could get to him. Profit.

3k/week plus all expenses paid including(.60) mile because I refused “Car” rental (I’m trashy and you can’t smoke in rentals) for 2yr driving around collecting signatures for FEMA for Katrina.

Plot twist, that money got me Jet Set’n, engaged, married and divorced.

ETA

Filed a lawsuit against an attorney who was a homeowner in Lakeview.

His dog got loose and bit my friend’s old lady.

Strict liability = easy 1,333 bucks for my 1/3 of the ensuing settlement

So, you took some calls and made some texts...but never lifted a finger?
