I think small towns can be corrupt in every single state in the country. I don't know if it's a bad thing if tight nit communities take care of eachother because they know each others families

What's going on in New Orleans is amazing though. Wide open corruption to the tunes of millions of dollars, ideological policies leading to the city becoming the murder capital of the country and to top it all off- the criminal class is a protected victim group because of their skin color.

New Orleans and Chicago are perfect examples of equity and inclusion "hires" breaking, once glorious, is cities

Rapides Parish sheriff was recently exposed for having never paid property taxes as far back as records available. His sisters didn’t pay property taxes either.
The previous sheriff paid property taxes but it was a ridiculously low amount-$46.00

The assessor playing dumb,he has no idea how that slipped through the cracks.

No telling what other frickery going on.I hear rumors.

Current. Heck his mother received a homestead exemption for 8 years after her death.

Rapides sheriff’s siblings receive low-ball property assessments and $0 tax bills

The low to non-existent taxes he paid was a trick he learned from his predecessor that hand picked him. Earl Hilton also had super low assessments on his properties and paid little tax.

I wonder if investigations and convictions (or other ramifications) for corruption is a sign of blatant corruption or more a sign that it’s there but being fought against?

It’s a sign of mismanagement.

If these locales were heavily corrupt but also efficiently running their jurisdictions and ensuring consistent access to basic services, most people would shrug and look past the corruption.

It’s because they’re also incompetently managed that people actually want something done about it.

Essentially every government that has ever or will ever exist is corrupt in some way, the question is always if the government is doing its job in spite of the corruption. When it does everybody looks the other way, when it doesn’t people revolt and the ruling classes have to at least put on a show of doing something about the corruption.

Except the difference is that 99% of the violent crimes in Chicago take place in the poor side of the city, which is basically walled off from the wealthier North Side by the Chicago river. With NOLA, none of the affluent areas are protected from the crime. The entire city is one big crime spot.

Really impossible to answer. Some are more in your face than others, some have had higher profile blunders, and some are just really good at concealing it. Just based on personal experience, I’d have to imagine that Tangipahoa has got to be up there.

Because they will drop the speed quickly to get revenue for their shite hole town to run off of. Usually for the sheriff to run around like a big dog.

Because speed traps, almost by definition, are corrupt. You basically try to steal from out of towners that are driving through with your unnecessarily low speed limit.

This will be impossible to measure due to the rampant corruption in LA, but Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes as a whole have to be up there.

Thanks Leander

But honestly it’s New Orleans because everywhere else has an excuse. They’re small and insignificant. New Orleans is our window to the world able to attract A-listers. It should be better than everywhere else

If the feds had the resources or we had 50 Lee Zurich types to turn loose in the state for a year, I bet we could find astonishing corruption.
Parish presidents and councils, sheriffs, police chiefs, and the little levee districts are probably 75% corrupt
