What’s the longest you’ve gone without changing your engine oil?

Currently at 9,000 miles on my weekend vehicle, oil looks good. Just lol at “come back in 3,000 more miles or 3 months”

With full synthetic you could probably go 20000 in most modern engines

I use synthetic

Longest i've gone was 6000 but I use a full synthetic so honestly I could probably go to 8000-9000. Not willing to risk that though

I’ve never changed my oil. I pay people to do that.

50,000 with Amsoil and a bypass filter. I now run Mobil1 and 10,000 normally. I put mostly highway miles around 40,000 a year.

I use synthetic. Regardless, I change at 5k and feel immediate motor performance.
Castrol says I can go 10k and i have on one occasion. I felt like I mistreated that motor and could feel the sluggishness.

I had a z71 in the late 90s that had 180k miles on it when I sold it and doubt I changed the oil more than three times.

11 years but I don't drive it much.

Did same with a 1994 Ford Ranger.
Had 115k miles on it when i sold it and may have changed it 5 times.

My last oil change on my '03 Tundra was in Feb. '17. Have only put about 3,000 miles on it since. I did have a battery go completely dead about two winters ago from lack of usage, that's according to my car guy at the dealership. But to answer your question, every 5,000 with tire rotation. Sometimes I think that is more important than the oil change.

I know right? frick spending $50 bucks every 3 months to extent the working life of a $30-40K piece of machinery.

I just went a year without changing the oil in my truck. Only put a little over 3k on it in that period though.

25-30k easily in college days.

I get what you're saying here but if you use synthetic and don't drive your engine ridiculously hard, 5,000 miles between oil changes is perfectly acceptable.

Last Friday I got an oil change, it hadn't been 3,000 miles, but it had been awhile. They told me it had been 19 months.

Point is there's no one size fits all answer. Do what the owner's manual says, and use common sense. The shop says 3 months or 3,000 miles because that's a pretty good interval to have a car at least laid eyes on by a mechanic for the average owner who knows jack shite about their vehicle. If you're not the average owner then do whatever you're comfortable doing.

My daily driver gets a 5k mile OCI, Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Plarinum 5W-30 and OEM filter. It mostly all city severe service mileage though. My F150 that will hardly see 5k miles in 18 months gets its oil changed annually with Mobil 1 10W-30 and Motorcraft filter. Both engines are absolutely spotless under the valve covers.
