New Orleans to Port Allen, August 2005 evacuating the day (Sunday) before Katrina. About 9 hours. With a dog and a carload of shite.

Just finished 15- Port St. Joe, FL to Shreveport, LA, but I realized in Alexandria that I left my phone at Billy’s, so that added 3 hours.

Did 14-15 a great years back from Shreveport to Davidson, NC for a wedding. That’s about my max.

Side note: realized tonight that I apparently also left my boudin & sausage (probably $20-25 worth, not the worst ever) at the register, so that whole portion of my trip home was cursed

19 hours. North La. to Rawlins, Wyoming in 1985. On my way to Rock Springs, WY. Woke up in the wrong lane with an 18 wheeler blinking his lights at me. Scared the shite out of me. I stopped and got a room.

Don’t remember how many hours it was, but Alamogordo New Mexico to Peru Indiana was a pretty long pull. I went from Alamogordo to Searcy Arkansas many times. Return trips too. They were between 13-14 hours.

Detroit to Baton Rouge, about 16 hours the last four of which was white knuckling it down 55 in Mississippi where I swore every reflection was a deer on the side of the road ready to jolt out in front of me.

Disney world to avoyelles parish. We split it up on the way there but drove it straight through on the way home. The stretch from Tallahassee to Orlando is brutal. You realize how big a state Florida is.

Drove straight to Pinehurst, NC after getting off work at 4am (16 hours). We were ultimately driving to Toronto, but stayed 4 nights in different cities after we got to North Carolina. Also drove over 16 hours to Disney World because an 18 wheeler ran off the interstate in Walker.

I’ve driven from West Monroe to Albuquerque without a rest on at least three different occasions, roughly 14hrs. West Monroe to Louisville KY was a similar trip. Bend Oregon to Yellowstone was a pretty good haul. Even West Monroe to Pecos Texas is a long arse drive, despite finding 85mph speed zones

My father drove from Picayune Mississippi to Cape Girardeau and back(23 hours), slept for 1 hour then went to New Orleans and sat in Checkpoints (right after Hurricane Katrina), which wound up taking 8 hours to pick up my sister and move her.

I drive Acadiana a to South Bend (14 hours) several times a year. The hard haul is across Texas on I-10. Did that once non-stop. Never again.

All of the stories just further convince me to never evacuate for a hurricane. I'd rather dodge cinder blocks and hide in my attic than any of that.

I regularly make the drive from Denver to New Orleans in one shot. Usually 20-21 hours. I have a bed built in the back of my land cruiser that I always say I will stop in when I get tired but I haven’t stopped yet. Energy drinks are 2 for $4 at almost every gas station
