Strip mall - is an open-air shopping mall where the stores are arranged in a row, with a sidewalk in front. Strip malls are typically developed as a unit and have large parking lots in front.

Places in Texas like Houston are out of control with them which is part of their free for all permitted city planning.
Older city's without as much sprawl are just lucky to have older well built structures with character that are used for retail instead of strip mall after strip mall.
Another thing is it's the same group of chain stores on nearly every freeway exit.

The top level is a legit L shaped strip mall. The lower level is just a fancy strip mall made to look like a downtown street

That's exactly what both of those are. Park lane has a parking garage instead of a parking lot because space is tight.

Perkins Rowe is done tastefully and shitty ppl go there so that argument doesn't work for everything.
Basically the stucco/block buildings are an eye sore, no matter what store is leasing the space.

Biggest drawback of strip malls and river walk malls is the fact that they're miserable in the hot summer months.

Older sections of town with local shops that have parking in the rear is what I think of as what most mean as an alternative. Each shop or section of block has a unique design and it's a walkable place near a vibrant neighborhood.
I'm not against strip malls, but some are better than others.
There are some cities with loops around them that is just one continues repeat of strip malls with the same chains over and over. That would be what I would think as a bad thing.

People in 4th grade were at that age of testing waters.
I remember it became a thing to do, like if you wanted bully or fight someone,..was to walk up and be like, "aww man,..New shoes!" While simultaneously using yours to step on and smudge theirs.
