At 27, I ran 3 miles for Marine ROTC.
The first time, I ran 23 plus on the lakefront in the middle of summer.

The second time, I ran 22.45.

The third time I ran against a huge black guy. I beat him by 300 yards.

My time was 19.37.

A week later the Captain told me he was accepting the other guy.
I pummeled him in push ups and sit ups.

Why, they needed a black guy. I told the Captain that and he said yes.
He said try next year, I told him to frick off.

6:40 mile, 21:30ish 5k. Don't recall any timed 10k runs. All in sophomore or junior year in HS when I played soccer.

I was never very fast, but I could run for days back then. Now I'm limping to the finish of a mile or so. Sad and true.

High school, 1 mile at 5:40 in competition. It wasn't good compared to the skilled runners, but from weighing over 220 as a 13 year old just two years prior, I was proud of myself.

College, 5k, i broke 20 once, and god damn did it hurt. Came with a lot of regular practice. Blacking out on weekly basis didn't help

4:47 mile as a junior in college. 11:13 for 2 miles in basic training. 24:12 for 4 miles in basic as well.

Good stuff.

I used to think I was pretty solid at the 2 mile run when Iw as in the Army.

I went to a school where we held an APFT on the 1st day. I'm running my typical time of about 11:30. Dude laps me.

I'm like. Da frick???!!!!

So a 4:30 puts you on every college radar for track and field and you were that close eh....

I have never run a 10K and have never clocked my time on a 5K. But in 2006, at the county track meet, I ran a 1600 meter time of 5:21. I was smoking. Probably would have had a sub-five minute mile time if not for the insane blister that bedeviled me on the fourth and final lap.

I worked with a guy at Fort Monroe, VA who was running sub 9 on the APFT(2 miles). It was funny because he said he joined the Army out of shape but got into running as a result of Basic.

I'm like.........."you'd have been on scholly if you'd figured this shite out in HS".

It doesn't really. A high school boy might be allowed to walk on at a crappy D1 program with a 4:30 mile--college women run faster every year. The 4:47 that guy is claiming isn't very close to 4:30, either.

Naw, that is a pretty avg time for a HS runner.....maybe slightly above average. These days you need to run 4:15 to get division I attention.

5:15 mile when I was 70 lbs lighter. But now I could easily run a mile in 4:15 because I post on the OT.
