There was a kid who was about 15 who drove a school bus about had full of people to Houston. I think it was the Astrodome, but I'm not positive.

Among his 20 or 30 passengers were several people older than 15. I don't know if they didn't offer to drive or he refused to let them, but he made the news when he rolled in. Strange times.

An old coworker/friend of mine went down to Chalmette Refinery post-Katrina to do lots of work. May have lasted a few months.

He said he drove down the highway past the sex shop (I think it’s called Mr Binkey’s) and there were dildos all over the place. The streets, the ditches, everywhere...

Not really a horrifying Katrina story but a funny one nonetheless.

People saying they had a hundred or two MREs after everything was over.

Oh and the story that the current gang turf war in Meridian, MS is from the gang members who bailed out of NO and decided Meridian was a good place to set up shop, so they stayed.

We had a dozen boxes with 12 meals per box I believe. They truck came down our street and asked if we wanted or needed any. I said sure and they tossed out 12 boxes. Guy said most people werent taking them. I didnt ask for 12. I think he was just trying to get rid of em.

We had a few dozen of them after Gustav. I ate a few of them before I realized they were like 4k calories

I remember there was a rumor that a street gang was holding Marlon Defillo (NOLA cop) hostage and was demanding buses out of town.

A very good friend was a foreman for a cleanup company doing work at the Convention Center. They were cleaning one of the kitchens and pulled out a whole pig that had been sealed in the fridge for a few months. It disintegrated when they tried to lift it to throw it away. His description of what it looked like and smelled like was disturbing.

I did the camera system and network cabling at the makeshift morgue site in Carville as they were bringing refrigerator truck loads of bodies in. The autopsy room was otherworldly.

This is the rumor we heard in Atlanta

That ya'll were killing looters left and right and tossing them into the floodwaters

That urban legend that started circling around about the cannibal who was keeping bodies in his apartment in the Quarter.

Wasn’t the punchline that the girl thought she had herpes but it was “something you could only get from eating human flesh.”

Or was I the only one that heard that?

The NOPD public information officer, Paul Arccado, commiting suicide a few days after the storm hit.

Apparently, he was going through a divorce, his house was destroyed, city flooded, cops stealing Cadillacs, Eddie Compass going off the rails, and Lord knows what other shite were all just a little too much for him to handle.
