What's sad is that reading up on it...one person who had been attacked previously kept calling the task force after some of the murders saying it had to be Derrick Todd Lee. But no one followed up because it wasn't a "white guy in a white truck."

not sure about the white truck, but I do remember for months they were looking for a white man as the perp. That was a frick up. Zachary police finally matched his DNA with a missing victim from Zachary. He was arrested there earlier and sample taken from him then.

fairly sure the white PU thing got started cause a truck driver recalled seeing a woman slumped over the seat of a white PU on I10 BB when Pam Kenamore was abducted/missing.
Then a white truck was seen in the video outside the Subway when MAF was abducted.

Nah im pretty sure that was started by an 18 wheeler truck driver that thought he saw a man in a white truck with a girl tied up in there on the interstate or something like that. Me and my buddy(he had a white truck w/paint peeling off hood)actually got surrounded by about 10 LEO in Wedgewood one day when we were like 16 because of that. It was crazy

right, DTL had been swabbed when caught as a peeper in Zachary. That was when he was stalking Randi Mebrauer.
Danny Mixon, someone I thought who never got the recognition he deserved, was able to convince DTL to submit another DNA swab (while the serial killer shite was going on) which led LSPCSI to iding DTL as the suspect/perp

I remember reading one article where MAF's son said he was told by a LEO friend that cell phone pings place DTL within 100 feet of the Subway when she was abducted.

I thought that had been proven, but DTL never fessed up to it and they never found her so they couldn't pin it on DTL.

A buddy of mine drove a white truck at the time and someone turned his name in to BRPD as a suspect. He was questioned several times by detectives.

Current Zachary Chief of Police was a detective at the time and caught him with help from the AG’s office. They targeted DTL on Mebruer and some other crimes. He told BRPD multiple times and shared his file. BRPD relies on the original FBI “psych profile” and “witness” , both of which suggested the killer was white. They disregarded the info from Zachary. Zachary and AG went out on their own to obtain a subpoena for his DNA. They met DTL and as stated coaxed him to give a sample. While this was going on, BRPD sent DNA to a knee lab in Florida who broke the DNA down further using a new technology at the time. It suggested that the DNA had 80 plus percent African American in the composition. All of this happens just as the lady from Scott survives an attack and provides a sketch that looks exactly like DTL. When Zachary PD and AG see the sketch, they call LSP and ask them to rush the processing of the DNA swab they got from DTL. The rest is history. I may be off a little on the order , but that’s what happened.

Correct, David McDavid gave DTL’s name to LE several times because of all the trouble he’d been in around Zachary. I think he was also ID’d by the couple who were hacked with a machete in the graveyard right off 964. (They both survived)

Her son walked in during the attack. DTL got away in a gold Hyundai with Levis Mitsubishi plates. They contacted the dealership also, to find out who bought a gold Hyundai from a Mitsubishi dealer.
