I was notified today that from here on out I'm pay no points.
I'd be curious to read an explanation of this. Just looking at the words, I interpret it to mean "you can stay in the Air Force (Active) Reserve, and we'll pay you, but you won't accumulate any more 'points' toward retirement."

I have a masters in Aviation Management but don't really know how the civilian world works.
Trying to parlay that into massive Yankee dollars seems like the obvious play. The cultural difference is real, though.
IDK if you ever thought about becoming a Command Chief, but the type of BS you'd have to deal with in the corporate world is probably similar to that. That is my wild-arse guess.

200/mo for 12 mos = extra 2400/year. I would stay. 2500 for 20 years is 48000 dollars.

But you will get that cushy government COLA every year, which is equivalent to most private industry employees "raises".

I simply cannot fathom how anyone could struggle with retirement. To have money and free time is the whole point of life.

I didn't want to be the first to point it out, but I too am curious about this part. Could be as benign as him hitting a wall time in service wise, could be something else. Either way, pretty short notice for a chief.

I just figured some Rumsfeld/McNamara-wannabe looked at a spreadsheet and asked, "WTF do these all these reserve units need active duty Chiefs for?"

Personally I’d stay the extra year and figure out what you want to do when you finally get out.

Based on his post, I get the idea he's a reservist Chief. I think OP said he came off AD in the early 2000's

I thought he was "Active Reserve" i.e. someone full-time assigned to the USAFR to fill out a unit. It's not my area, though. Could be way off.

He’s an ART(Air Reserve Technician). Part time military, full time civilian in his unit.
I was one for 4 years. It’s weird, you wear a uniform to work, but you’re not always in a military status.

I would stay the year.. But use that year to figure out what you want to do.. Your timeline to figure it out is set..

Whatever the hell you want. Learn some new hobbies. Take up fishing, hunting, or hiking. Golf. Travel the country or the world. Buy a boat or RV. Restore an old car. Flip an old house. If you’re super bored, start a small business or do volunteer work.

Ex-Air force here man. You need to stick it out one more year. If you decide you dont really want to work anymore than that extra money will be helpful. With your wife retired Air force looks like you wont really need to stress over money for the rest of your life.
