Why do you people think giving your keys to these animals is going to prevent further violence. They do not value life, period.
You’re still going to get shot.

BR isn't a safe city at all but I never think about getting carjacked. It doesn't happen here much. I absolutely have thought about getting robbed in a gas station parking lot though

While I get your point, virtually everyone who has given up their cars had been let go.
My personal plan involves leaving enough gap between myself and the car in front. Hitting the curb or sidewalk.

Used not happen in NOLA too much either

You'd be the one going to jail and the carjacker would be canonized.
Not many states allow deadly force for protecting property anymore.
In 1997, there was a surge of carjacking in N.O. and a “shoot the carjacker” law was passed. NY Times
quote:
All states have laws that allow self-defense measures, but the Louisiana measure appears to be the first to focus specifically on carjacking, legislators said. The law was passed by the Legislature in June. But even in this state where it is legal for people to carry concealed weapons, the law has drawn criticism.
''Essentially, it's just a law that allows you to kill car thieves,'' said Bert Garraway of the public defender office in Baton Rouge. ''As is usually the case, the Legislature overreacted.''

I have had a gun pointed at me in a road rage incident. Funny thing is that I was armed too but I figured I'd just go on about my business and not try to go all Wyatt Earp on Sherwood

Best thing is keep your head on a swivel and when you come up on a light give yourself space from the car in front of you so you can maneuver out of it

Forgot if it was 97 or 98, there were somewhere around 200 carjacking in the first 6 months.
Remember a prominent carjacking at the Schwegmanns off Sherwood that had all of BR on edge.

The scariest to me is when children are in car seats, because you need to buy a little time.
I think most car jackers are specifically targeting single people, a kid in a car seat is a bad situation for all parties involved.
I’d be more inclined to shoot someone if I had a kid in a car seat, no way in hell am I risking them taking my kid in the car away. Which is more likely than then being courteous and taking the risk to unbuckle them.

Exactly, never tailgate in questionable areas

If you’re in New Orleans you’re never getting to step 4
Then I have nothing to worry about. I’ve made my last trip to NO unless it has a massive transformation similar to what was seen in NYC under Rudy Giuliani. It’s sad, I use to enjoy trips to NO.

I 100% try to shoot the carjacker dead if I have a gun that is easily reachable. If not, I hide my phone in the glove box and hand him the keys.
Once he drives off, I find a phone so I can call the cops and my family and track my phone to catch the carjacker and get my car back.

I don’t have to worry about carjackings where I am, but I’m curious. Are there not devices that have auto shutoff or remote shutoff options?

In all probability, you are probably giving him a set of keys, including the one to your house!
