I wouldn't move to Ohio. I just couldn't take the winters, but I've lived SOI10 my whole life. If I were you, I'd take over and sell out.

The bad part about Ohio is pretty much anywhere outside of southeast of the lake, they dont get that much snow. Lots of wind though. Rarely are you digging out your car or messing with the windshields

No, but my landscaper doubles as my snow plower, who clears my driveway and sidewalks.

I have good news for you. You probably don't have to do that. The prospect of having to "dig out" from a large snowfall is much greater on the eastern seaboard than it is in the midwest. We get northeasters here infrequently that dump large amounts of snow. The midwest? Not so much.

4.0 January 5.3 13.5
2.4 February 2.2 5.6
1.0 March 1.7 4.3
0.1 April 0.1 0.3
0.1 November 0.1 0.3
2.6 December 2.9 7.4
10.2 Year 12.3 31.2

And don't get me wrong. It can get damned cold with a bitter wind in your face and the landscape is gray and dreary. However, from sometime in April to sometime in October it's absolutely beautiful.

75% of members on this site would move there for 75k/year.

I would consider moving if I could double my current salary of $250k.

I would move north out of DFW for basically any job in my field/specialty. Can't imagine how much less I'd do it for if I lived in the actual "South."

Great post.

I'm grooming my son to take over my business and I can't tell you how many times I've asked him if he's sure that this is the path that he wants to take. I've also told him that if he wants to sell it at some point he has my blessing.

Of course, I do have a number that has to be hit for me to agree to a sale.

Recently vacationed in Northern NM, Taos area. I will be moving there in about two years once my youngest graduates from HS. From Louisiana and I think I was born in the wrong area. I love where I'm from, but it's time for a change and no humidity not to mention a whole lot more to do. My job will permit me to do so.

Taos is a hidden treasure. Santa Fe as well. People think NM is a cesspool. They couldn't be more wrong.

I realized, when living in Washington DC, that I could make less in the South and have a higher standard of living.

You'll be fine in Ohio. You'll gain great life-skills taking over a business.

That's a good point. I live in NOVA and you definitely have to pull in an income here. The good news is that the opportunity is here.

The standard of living in Dayton should be pretty high if his income is in the range that I think it will be in there.
