Pray to every god know to human beings, then to the Norse and Greek gods, and then try not to shite myself from the hell you will endure.
DDay was absolutely f'in brutal. So many died w/o ever touching land, leaving their carriers, etc. Just brutal.

I wouldn't have a plan. I would just do what I was told and be scared shitless.

Fire my rifle on the move to an obstacle. Fire and maneuver

Normandy landing boats are trashy.

WTF are you gonna shoot at?

I'm not sure fire and maneuver are meant to be done simultaneously

Crazy when you think about that situation, and how men like Norman Cota can keep their wits and lead other men into battle.

Muzzle flashes, bunkers, enbankmets, everything. Anything I can do to possibly suppress. Get to hedgehog, fire, advance, dive into crater, fire, advance. Running as quickly as possible to the end of the beach.
Can’t hurt
ETA: and yes I understand the infantry doctrine of fire and maneuver. Just highlighting how some of the smaller scale applications could be used by individual soldiers

I am a US Navy veteran. I have been to Anzio and the Nettuno Cemetary on multiple occasions. It is a very humbling experience. I have thought about this topic before. Again my answer is I would just try to do my job and be really scared.

Jump overboard before getting to the beach
I’ve read stories about guys jumping over the sides to avoid being shot right out the ramp. They drowned due to the weight of their equipment.

Probably just wasting ammo. Those guys only had about 150 rounds on them.

If I can get them to stop firing for a few seconds that can save lives. I’ll waste ammo if it means suppressing machine guns. That would be my mindset.
That is if we’re talking about Omaha

I had the honor of walking on those beaches - Utah, Omaha, Pont du Hoc. It is an extremely humbling experience that I think every American should visit.

shite in my pants, throw up, follow the guys in front of me until I was shot to hell..... that’s probably the way it goes.

My family and I are actually here in Normandy at the moment. The area feels like a resting place for civilization.
Our kids are running through bombing craters like sand traps.
Each German Bunkers ceiling is torched wood from the American’s flame throwers.
Amazing what the human mind will allow our bodies to do when it comes to survival
