Looking for a place to hide would have gotten you killed. Your best bet for survival was to get off the boat and get across the beach and into defilade from the German fire as fast as humanly possible.

I know, comic books aren't real. That was a lame attempt at humor.
Fine, I would've just found a PPSH with a modified grip, extended mag, and reflex sight and after killing 5 or 6 Germans I'd get a flying radar plane to update me and all my fellow soldier's HUD maps with the enemy location. Then I'd use my laptop to guide a missle down on their vulnerable positions.

Again, this was the fastest way to die. The whole beach was swept with MG fire. To stay on the beach was to die. Your best bet for living was to get off the beach fast.

No shite. They would be the reserve.. The German 6th would be the main defense in place of the ost and conscripts. With the panzer 4th in reserve to push back with a swift counter attack. Although with Hitler being a lazy frick who sleeps in til 10 and had a strict do not disturb order, it doesn't really matter either way. Since he was asleep and had direct control over the counterattack.

Couldn't imagine having to cover that kind of real estate under fire from 88's, MG 42's, mortars, and mines.

Only one problem with that. The 6th Army of June 44 was nothing compared to the 6th Army of 1941-42 before Stalingrad where it was destroyed only to be rebuilt in 1943. And by 44, it had as many Hungarian troops as it did German troops.

Quite aware. I'm talking about pre-stalingrad 6th army. Even the rebuilt 6th would have been a more combat efficient group. Those posted on the normandy beaches were kids/elderly/wounded/ost. All the real units were on the eastern front (for the most part)
No need to tear apart every hypothetical out there Darth.
