overly obese people should be ridiculed for being lazy and treating their body like shite
These people already hate themselves. The "body-positive" ones are just putting up a front.

Agreed this a problem but if you look at overall availability of food unhealthy options are much more available then healthy
Because that's what people are buying.

You don't have vending machines of apples sitting around. I agree its no excuse and people need to start taking responsibility but if you look at what the FDA approves for the use in foods compared to what Europe approves its eye opening. The FDA approves a lot of shite that doesn't fly in other countries. So their food on average is healthier and better for you.
Yeah let's blame this on the government and not personal responsibility.

We are likely not going back to an agrarian lifestyle in big numbers - which would work for most of us.
So, we somehow must move away from a diet dominated by carbs -->too many corn, potato, rice, sugar & wheat fields (many subsidized) in this country.

Trashy need to stop eating trashy food.

I keep waiting for the obesity epidemic to cross paths with the meth epidemic. There is a lot of crossover in demographics of each. Meth is a quick way to lose weight.
You do see a lot of huge women with scrawny meth head men.

This might sound "anti-capitalist", but here's a take:
There are corporations in this country that grow by getting people to consume more food. The more shite they get people to consume, the more their stock grows and they appease the investors.
They NEED fatties to consume their products. They have food scientists who perform studies to determine exactly how to optimize the satisfaction people get from eating. Those ruffles chips have been scientifically formulated to provide the ideal amount of ridges on each chip, the perfect amount of crunch, the tastiest amount of salt and grease, and then put in the perfect packaging, all determined by studies and focus groups on consumers.
Yeah, sure, it's pretty easy for the individual to avoid that stuff if you know what to eat and have some restraint. But when you have companies who are actively trying to make Americans consume unhealthy products so they can make money, then they will do whatever it takes.

Some people consume 1000x or more the sugar intake they should be getting per day. There are people who hardly drink any water and consume 6-12 sodas a day in addition to a high fat (bad fats) and high carb (bad carbs) diet composed of nothing but processed foods void of any nutrition. No whole foods. No fruits. No vegetables.
In general, people in the U.S. also eat larger portions of food. So when you have a society that over-eats, eats often, and eats nothing but junk then you end up with high obesity rates. Lack of exercise plays a huge part as well. People have jobs where they sit and do nothing all day then they go home and sit and do nothing. I understand genetics do play SOME part but for the most part obesity is a choice.

End the domestic sugar subsidies and place tariff's on imported sugar.......a lot of baked goods would suck and the candy industry would get hosed. But sugary foods including sugar are a big culprit.......and frickin' video games

There are lobbyists in Washington making sure people are addicted to unhealthy food. It makes too much money for the people making the food and it makes money for the doctors treating heart disease, diabetes, and every other ailment caused by obesity.

What?
I mean I suppose if you just sit in front of an xbox all day long feeding your face as you play Fallout , you might get fat, but that's hardly the fault of the video game.

You're the exception. The average American gets little to no exercise. LINK

What's more, even if dude didn't exercise at all and still was not overweight, that doesn't prove the point. People who don't exercise aren't always overweight, but you will rarely find a person who exercises regularly and is fat.

take away free healthcare for people who are obese.

I agree with you. What I'm disagreeing with is the reason. It's a societal change, just like cigarettes as I said earlier. They went from en vogue to shamed as a society. We need to do the same with food and patterns will change.
If you would have read my post you would know that.

Well, healthy living means more than body fat and many athletes would also be considered obese simply going by weight charts.
In general though people don't eat healthy food and exercise enough.
Kids today get less outdoor time than maximum security inmates and about 1/4 of the outdoor time their grandparents got.

This isn't causation and correlation, though. Most people who exercise eat healthy and vice versa. It's not one or the other in most cases, these things almost always go hand in hand.

A deep economic depression would do it
