What were some great American cities that turned into garbage places to live?

Watching this documentary on Cairo, Illinois and this is most depressing thing I have ever seen

Requirements:

* Population has significantly decreased
* Lots of companies moved
* Cultcha enforced

What's the ELI5 of the city's downward trajectory?

At this point, NOLA is a place I love to visit, but would never want to live.

Majority people of color took over and it is democratic run.

Every single major city that has become crap, is 100% democratic and the largest voting population of that city are people of color.

I've always heard Albany as well. I have no knowledge of the area though.

Basically any city that used to be a majority of one demographic and gradually went to a majority other demographic. Look at all of them.

Only 8 posts for this thread to become political and racist.

Further than I expected.

One of the things that I’ve noticed on td... I know people don’t want banned, but come out and say it, don’t beat around the bush.

I grew up in a really nice neighborhood (all white families) and everyone would ride bikes and play together.

Blacks moved in and it became a neighborhood filled with fights, drugs, break-ins and lots of loud music during the night. Kids could no longer ride bikes without coming across some gangsta talking shite.

This is not a racism problem. It's a black culture problem.

They aren't racist though. They have a black friend at work.

Baltimore.

Always thought Camden yards looked awesome. Seems like a cool district, until they burnt the area down
